## The honest read

A1 Garage Doors fixes garage doors around Stamford. On its website the company lists spring replacement, opener repair and installation, cable and off-track repair, and 24/7 emergency service, with a service area running from Stamford to towns such as Ansonia, Bethel and Branford.

A recent Stamford customer said the technician arrived on time, explained everything clearly, replaced a broken spring and repaired the garage door opener the same day. A recent customer said Jason fixed a battery issue. A recent customer said the installer arrived as scheduled and quickly fixed the garage door. A 2026 customer said Jason handled a noisy door by replacing pulleys and tightening the system. A 2025 customer said Jason handled uneven door tension by replacing worn parts and lubricating the system. A 2025 customer who expected to need a new door said they repaired it instead and saved that customer a lot of money.

A recent Stamford customer said A1 sent a contractor called M.S. Garage Doors, which gave only a vague ballpark number and no written estimate before starting, then billed about six times what was verbally implied, including $575 per spring and $1,475 for a Chamberlain opener. That customer said the company admitted some pricing had not been approved in advance and offered to remove installed parts or give partial refunds on smaller components, and urged getting a detailed written estimate, including labor rates, before any work begins.

Connecticut lists its home improvement contractor registration, HIC.0701023, as active, held by A1 GARAGE DOORS.

**Strengths:**
- Same-day spring repair — a Stamford customer said spring and opener were fixed that day
- On-time arrival — a recent customer said the installer arrived as scheduled
- Repair over replacement — a 2025 customer said the door was repaired, not replaced

**Concerns:**
- Subcontracted crew — a recent customer said M.S. Garage Doors was sent instead
- Final bill — a recent customer said it was six times what was implied
