## The honest read

Alfred W. Ivan Painting Inc. is a Derby painting company with a long written history: customers have described its interior, exterior, power-washing and deck work on Angi and HomeAdvisor since 2008. HomeAdvisor shows 4.8 stars from 240 ratings, and Angi 5.0 from 11. The company describes itself as offering painting, power washing and wallpapering, plus deck cleaning, staining and resealing, and lists Derby, Ansonia, Woodbridge, Seymour, Orange and Bethany among the towns it serves.

It holds an active Connecticut home improvement registration, HIC.0613214. Its BBB page is an A+, and it is BBB accredited.

In a March 2025 Google review, a customer says the crew came out quickly, priced the job reasonably, fixed cracks in a kitchen ceiling and painted dining room molding about 80 years old, along with a corner hutch. In an October 2023 HomeAdvisor review, a customer who hired Fred's company to power wash the house says his team removed the mold and spots from the siding. Fred is named in 5 of the 24 HomeAdvisor reviews; in a December 2019 one, a customer whose whole condo was painted in four days was not satisfied with the baseboard trim, and Fred had the crew come back right away to redo it.

In a 2019 Angi review, a homeowner says Alfred quoted about 40% less than another estimate for a full interior and uses Benjamin Moore paint. A 2014 Angi reviewer describes plaster walls that took 4-5 coats in some rooms to reach even coverage, at no extra cost. In a 2010 Angi review, a family moving into a foreclosure says Alfred's team patched, sanded and painted damaged moldings about 5 times rather than replacing them, and brought in a carpenter to replace the doors; that customer noted the doors got a little sticky in summer.

In a January 2024 HomeAdvisor review, a customer calls the crew polite and quick but says they painted over all the wall mollies, leaving the customer to find where wall-mounted items had hung.

**Strengths:**
- Comes back to fix — 2019 condo trim redone right away at Fred's call
- Plaster walls covered — 2014 customer got 4-5 coats at no extra cost
- Power washing — 2023 customer says siding mold and spots came off

**Concerns:**
- Wall anchors painted over — January 2024 customer had to relocate mounted items
