## The honest read

Atlantic Heating Company has been in Portland, Maine since 1969, when Stan Morrell started it, according to its BBB profile, which says his son Bill continued it and that the company is now an ESOP delivering heating oil and propane with a full HVAC department. The company says it has been in business 57 years and serves Portland, Westbrook, South Portland, Scarborough, Gorham, Windham, Falmouth and towns out to Sebago and Gray, with 24/7 emergency service. William M. Morrell holds an active Maine HVAC licence, MS30002768, on the state registry.

On Google it holds a 4-star average from 82 ratings. A September 2026 customer said the company fitted their cooking stove for liquid propane, installed a larger propane tank, serviced a Rinnai on-demand water heater and ran new lines for a propane fireplace. An August 2026 reviewer praised Vinny's work at their home. In an April 2026 review, a customer whose leased water heater was being replaced said Nick came the same day, found the chimney needed cleaning first, and was back within the hour once it was done.

The complaints are about service after the sale. In a March 2026 2-star review, a homeowner said a nearly $15k boiler installation left only one floor heated, that the company came back five times over several weeks while insisting furniture placement was the cause, and that the problem turned out to be an improperly installed piece. An April 2026 2-star reviewer said their furnace stopped in March after a January oil delivery and that a service call was $149.

On Reddit, a December 2025 r/portlandme commenter said they order online and get next-morning delivery, and that the company services furnaces too.

**Strengths:**
- Propane work — a September 2026 review details tank, stove and fireplace lines
- Same-day visits — an April 2026 customer had Nick out the same day

**Concerns:**
- Install follow-up — a March 2026 review took five visits to fix heat
- Service call cost — an April 2026 review cites a $149 service call
