A 2022 customer said the other companies they spoke with needed a bucket truck or a crane and warned of serious damage to the lawn and stone wall, while Joe Candido proposed climbing the tree and cutting it down. That 2022 customer said Joe came early on a Saturday morning with chainsaws and climbing tools, and that it took the entire day. Avalon Sunset Tree Services describes itself on its website as a tree-care business in Chittenden County, Vermont, and says it has 25 years in business. Its stated service area runs from Colchester, Essex and Milton to Shelburne, Charlotte, South Hero and Grand Isle. On Google it holds 5 stars from 34 ratings, and HomeAdvisor shows 5.0 from 29. A recent customer said Joe removed a large, heavy storm-damaged limb dangling high above the yard, then climbed other trees to take off limbs above a power line and over the roof. A recent customer said Joe took down a tree and branches encroaching on the roof and chopped up a huge oak that fell in the backyard; on the fallen oak, that customer said, he was flexible about price and suggested people who might cart the wood away. A recent customer said he landed the branches right where he said they would. A 2026 customer said Joe took down a large leaning oak with a fractured base hung up on another tree. A 2025 customer said they called Joe at 1 p.m. on a Saturday after a tree fell across the driveway, and he was at the house within 2 hours. A 2025 customer with a horse farm in Colchester said that after Joe spent the majority of one day there, the fence line along a steep drop-off was secure and the debris was cleaned up. A 2024 customer said Joe felled two of five big hemlocks and climbed the others, limbing on the way up and chunking the trunks on the way down, while avoiding damage to their camper and rhododendrons. A 2025 customer said they rented a chipper and made mulch from the branches themselves, and that this saved a lot of money over tree services that want to handle everything. **Strengths:** - Rope-and-harness climbing — a 2025 customer described safe cutting 30 feet up - Same-day service — a 2025 customer said he arrived within 2 hours - Precise felling — a recent customer said branches landed where he said - An accurate estimate — a 2025 customer said his estimate was accurate - Flexible on price — a recent customer said he offered a range of options ## Claims & citations Every claim below is backed by real evidence rows — uncited claims are dropped in code before publication. - Rated 5 stars from 34 Google ratings _(confidence: high)_ - [Google](https://www.google.com/maps/search/?api=1&query=Avalon%20Sunset%20Tree%20Services&query_place_id=ChIJM7VCm91xykwRZVuzcmPNyvc) — “Google: 5★ from 34 ratings” - HomeAdvisor shows 5.0 stars from 29 ratings _(confidence: high)_ - [HomeAdvisor](https://www.homeadvisor.com/rated.avalonsunsettreeservice.112912674.html) — “HomeAdvisor: 5.0★ from 29 ratings” - The company says it has 25 years in business _(confidence: medium)_ - [Official Website](https://www.avalonsunsettreeservices.com) — “Self-reported 25 years in business” - Stated service area includes Colchester, Essex, Milton, Shelburne, Charlotte, South Hero and Grand Isle _(confidence: medium)_ - [Official Website](https://www.avalonsunsettreeservices.com) — “Stated service area (self-reported): Colchester, Essex, Shelburne, Milton, Essex Junction, Charlotte, Jericho, Williston, South Burlington, …” - In a 2022 review, a customer said Joe Candido proposed climbing a 100-plus-foot tree where other companies wanted a bucket truck or a crane _(confidence: medium)_ - [HomeAdvisor](https://www.homeadvisor.com/rated.avalonsunsettreeservice.112912674.html) — “5★ I recently had the pleasure of hiring Joe Candido of Avalon Tree Service to remove a 100 + foot tree on my property.
