## The honest read

B & D Painting is a painting and contracting business; on Angi it describes itself as independently owned and operated, with over 25 years of experience. Its Massachusetts HIC licence 175887, held by Bruce Williams, is expired on the state registry.

A 2017 customer said Bruce, Mike and Alex prepped and stained a 2000 sq ft ranch: they power-sanded two of the four sides, then applied two coats of Benjamin Moore Solid Stain, three in some areas. That 2017 customer said Bruce caulked some damaged clapboards and filled small cracks and holes, and that the lines they cut between the gray body and the white trim were clean and crisp.

A different 2017 customer said the company painted and repaired the back side of their home, which needed carpentry for water damage and a thorough scraping. That 2017 customer said Bruce advised against doing certain work, and that the job cost significantly less than other estimates.

A 2014 customer with a 1772 Colonial said Bruce and his crew repaired and painted its very old wood clapboards after the aluminum siding was removed, keeping the historic look of the house. That 2014 customer said they got the job done before the weather turned and cleaned up after themselves. A 2015 customer said they did roof and ceiling repairs after a bad winter.

The 2017 ranch customer said both the start and the finish ran longer than Bruce had estimated, though that customer called the wait worth it. A 2016 customer said the job took longer than anticipated and the crew tended to work shorter days than expected.

**Strengths:**
- Exterior prep and staining — a 2017 customer described power-sanding and two stain coats
- Historic house repainting — a 2014 customer said they repaired and painted a 1772 Colonial
- Cost below estimates — a 2017 customer said it cost significantly less than other estimates

**Concerns:**
- Expired HIC licence — MA licence 175887 is expired on the state registry
- Longer timelines — a 2017 customer said start and finish ran past estimates
- Shorter workdays — a 2016 customer said the crew tended to work shorter days
