--- title: "Big Hammer Carpentry" description: "When a flood destroyed one family's finished basement, Manny of Big Hammer Carpentry put together what they called a very competitive and complete estimate" doc_version: "2026-10-19" last_updated: "2026-10-19" --- # Big Hammer Carpentry **Trade:** Carpentry · **Phone:** (203) 228-0846 · **Website:** https://bighammercarpentryco.com/ · **Languages:** English, Spanish **Rating: 4.6/5** (medium confidence) — from 34 reviews across 11 sources. 100% of sentiment-scored reviews read net-positive. Last 6 months: 2 reviews, 0 negative. ## The honest read When a flood destroyed one family's finished basement, Manny of Big Hammer Carpentry put together what they called a very competitive and complete estimate, then his team showed up on time, moved the furniture and the washer and dryer, prepped the space, and kept the homeowner informed of expense changes when unexpected issues turned up. That February 2026 account sums up what people hire this crew for: carpentry-led remodeling, from porches and windows to full bathroom guts. The company says it has been in business 20 years and covers everything from foundations to siding, additions to remodels; it offers free estimates and says it is insured. Manny is named in reviews on Google, Angi and the BBB, and a 2020 Angi reviewer called him Manuel. The written reviews run from 2020 to 2026, and the platforms show 5.0 stars from 30 ratings on HomeAdvisor, 5.0 from 30 on Angi, 5 stars from 5 Google ratings and 5.0 from 3 on Thumbtack. A December 2025 Angi reviewer who had used the company for several projects described a full-gut bathroom remodel: the crew sealed off the work area, protected the floors, cleaned daily and worked 12 days straight to demo and rebuild, with the tile work and Schluter waterproofing singled out. In a November 2025 review, a homeowner said Manny installed a mudroom entryway with careful woodwork. A February 2026 Google reviewer hired the company twice — first to rebuild a front porch and steps, then to replace a large living-room window. Another February 2026 Google reviewer had two windows installed where none existed before, along with stucco exterior work, at a price they called fair. The more recent work continues the same mix. In May 2026, a Google reviewer said Manny showed up when he said he would, kept them updated, finished on schedule and charged no hidden fees. An October 2026 Thumbtack reviewer had exterior repairs, window trim and the whole house painted. Older reviews go back to a 2021 foyer project and a 2020 fireplace mantel built from a customer's inspiration photo. Its Connecticut home improvement contractor registration, HIC.0656386, is active, held by Big Hammer Carpentry LLC. The BBB lists the company as accredited with an A+ grade. **Strengths:** - Flood basement rebuild — 2026 customer praised estimate, prep and cost updates - Full-gut bathroom — 2025 review cites 12-day rebuild and daily cleanup - Repeat customers — several reviewers hired the crew for more projects - Windows and porches — 2025–2026 reviews describe new openings and porch rebuilds ## Claims & citations Every claim below is backed by real evidence rows — uncited claims are dropped in code before publication. - A February 2026 review described a flood-damaged basement remodel: a complete estimate, an on-time crew that moved furniture and appliances, and updates on expense changes _(confidence: high)_ - [Google Reviews](https://www.google.com/maps/reviews/data=!4m8!14m7!1m6!2m5!1sCi9DQUlRQUNvZENodHljRjlvT2prMVYzSlNNa281YW1KbmJ6ZGZORE0zZVRsSWRHYxAB!2m1!1s0x0:0x14641cffad427d02!3m1!1s2@1:CAIQACodChtycF9oOjk1V3JSMko5amJnbzdfNDM3eTlIdGc%7C%7C?hl=en-US) — “5★ Manny and his team were very professional and respectful of our home.
