## The honest read

Bob & Ray Overhead Doors is a garage door company that says it is based in Stratford, Connecticut and has served Fairfield County and New Haven County since 1991. On Google it holds 4.9 stars from 57 ratings.

A recent customer went from old R6 insulated doors to R18, said Ray did a nice professional job, and wrote that it was the first time a contractor left no clean up. A recent reviewer wrote that Bob and Ray did 5 garage doors on a job in Newtown. A recent customer said they came out the same day and repaired the door so it would work until the ordered parts came in, then fixed it. In a recent review, a customer who called about a minor issue said they showed up the next day exactly on time and that Joe took the time to explain how to fix it. A recent reviewer who has dealt with Bob and Ray for over 35 years wrote that Kim in the office always gets right back to you.

A 2026 customer said Kim booked a visit for the following week between 8 and 8:30am, and the tech was there at 8 sharp and finished around 9:10. A 2025 customer had two garage doors converted into a single large door, said the framing on the garage opening was changed, and said the work was completed on time. A 2025 reviewer wrote that the company installed all new garage doors at a condo in Fairfield and came out the next day for a slight adjustment. A 2025 customer said a garage door was folded when somebody exited too fast; Bob & Ray were on site the next day to put it back to normal, at a cost that customer called very reasonable.

In a 2024 review, a customer said four other companies gave quotes, most without looking at the size spring needed, and one was 4x more. A 2023 reviewer said their 86-year-old mother was about to pay nearly $4000 to replace both garage doors when Bob and Ray assessed the damage and fixed it right then, with no need to replace anything.

A 2025 reviewer noted that you will need to leave a message, and said they get back to you very quickly. A 2023 reviewer gave two stars after calling twice and never getting a call back.

**Strengths:**
- Same-day stopgap repair — a recent customer said the door worked until parts arrived
- A door conversion — a 2025 customer had two doors made into one
- Next-day repair — a 2025 customer said a folded door was fixed
- Repair over replacement — a 2023 reviewer avoided replacing both doors
