# Bonugli Construction **Trade:** Carpentry · **Address:** 160 Helvetia St, Tewksbury, MA · **Phone:** (978) 995-5479 · **Website:** https://bonugliconstruction.co · **Languages:** English **Rating: not yet scored** — 0 reviews across 3 sources is too little evidence for an honest number. ## The honest read Bookcases, mantles, kitchen islands, built-in entertainment units — the finish work people notice long after the dust settles is what Bonugli Construction leads with. The Tewksbury shop builds too: custom homes, additions and remodeling across Middlesex County and the Merrimack Valley. By the company's own account this is a three-generation business — started by Leo Bonugli in 1956, handed to his son Stephen in 1981, with Stephen Jr. now working in it. The Better Business Bureau lists Bonugli Construction at 160 Helvetia Street with Stephen Bonugli as owner, dates the Massachusetts business to 1981, and gives the profile an A+ grade. Tewksbury, Wilmington, Andover, Billerica, Westford, North Andover, Lowell and Chelmsford are among the towns it says it covers. The licences hold up on the state register: construction supervisor licence CS-122500 and home improvement contractor registration 124096 are both active, in the Bonugli name. BuildZoom also carries an earlier home improvement registration number for the business, 115353 — any licence number is worth checking yourself on the state's register before you sign. That same profile shows seven permitted projects in Tewksbury and Melrose between 2006 and 2012. One thing to settle early: the BBB entry describes a sole proprietorship with a single employee, while the company's site has Stephen Jr. in the business as well. On an addition, crew size is what drives the schedule, so ask who will actually be swinging a hammer and for how long. For built-ins, trim and millwork done by a carpenter who has been at it for decades, this is the kind of small, long-standing shop worth a call. Get the millwork specifics — species, finish, hardware — written into the estimate, ask for a realistic start and finish date, and ask for addresses of recent nearby work you can go look at. **Strengths:** - Custom millwork — bookcases, mantles, kitchen islands and built-ins listed - State-verified licences — construction supervisor CS-122500 and HIC 124096 both active - A+ BBB grade — the Tewksbury profile carries the bureau's top grade - Third-generation shop — the family dates its building work to 1956 - Permit history — seven Tewksbury and Melrose permits between 2006 and 2012 **Where sources disagree:** - The Better Business Bureau entry describes a sole proprietorship with one employee, while the company's site says Stephen Jr. also works in the business. - The company's site dates the founding to 1956, while the Better Business Bureau dates the Massachusetts business to 1981 — the year the site says leadership passed to Stephen Bonugli. ## Claims & citations Every claim below is backed by real evidence rows — uncited claims are dropped in code before publication. - A Tewksbury family carpentry and building company doing interior finish carpentry, custom millwork, custom home building, additions and remodeling across Middlesex County and the Merrimack Valley _(confidence: medium)_ - [Official Website](https://bonugliconstruction.co) — “A Tewksbury family carpentry and building company doing interior finish carpentry, custom millwork, custom home building, additions and remo…” - Its Better Business Bureau services list runs from interior finish carpentry and custom-made millwork — bookcases, mantles, kitchen islands, entertainment units — to custom home building, additions and general home improvements _(confidence: high)_ - [Better Business Bureau](https://www.bbb.org/us/ma/tewksbury/profile/carpenter/bonugli-construction-0021-96973) — “Services offered (Better Business Bureau): Interior finish carpentry, Custom-made millwork (bookcases, mantles, kitchen islands, entertainme…” - The company says Leo Bonugli founded it in 1956, that his son Stephen took over in 1981, and that Stephen Jr. is the third generation in the business _(confidence: medium)_ - [Official Website](https://bonugliconstruction.co) — “Company history (self-reported): Founded by Leo Bonugli in 1956; leadership passed to his son Stephen Bonugli in 1981, and Stephen Jr. now w…” - [Official Website](https://bonugliconstruction.co) — “Ownership (self-reported): Family-owned; owned and operated by Stephen Bonugli, son of founder Leo Bonugli, with his son Stephen Jr. also em…” - [Official Website](https://bonugliconstruction.co) — “Stated ownership (self-reported): Family-owned” - [Official Website](https://bonugliconstruction.co) — “Self-reported 70 years in business” - The Better Business Bureau lists Bonugli Construction at 160 Helvetia St, Tewksbury, as a sole proprietorship established in Massachusetts in 1981, with Stephen Bonugli as owner _(confidence: high)_ - [Better Business Bureau](https://www.bbb.org/us/ma/tewksbury/profile/carpenter/bonugli-construction-0021-96973) — “BBB profile for Bonugli Construction, 160 Helvetia St, Tewksbury: not accredited, A+ rating, established in Massachusetts 1/1/1981 (45 years…” - Massachusetts construction supervisor licence CS-122500 and home improvement contractor registration 124096 are both active on the state registry, held in the Bonugli name _(confidence: high)_ - [State License Registry](https://contractorhub.mass.gov/s/hic-contractor-search) — “MA hic license 124096 registry-verified active — registry holder of record: STEPHEN A.
