--- title: "CAAN Fence Inc" description: "CAAN Fence is a union fencing contractor in Dorchester that works the commercial side of the trade — ornamental steel, aluminum, vinyl, wood, wrought iron," doc_version: "2026-09-21" last_updated: "2026-09-21" --- # CAAN Fence Inc **Trade:** Fencing · **Address:** 9 Weldon St, Dorchester, MA 02121, USA · **Phone:** (781) 767-3596 · **Website:** https://www.caanfenceinc.com/ · **Languages:** English **Rating: 3.4/5** (low confidence) — from 0 reviews across 5 sources. ## The honest read CAAN Fence is a union fencing contractor in Dorchester that works the commercial side of the trade — ornamental steel, aluminum, vinyl, wood, wrought iron, chain-link, temporary fence and bollards for businesses, warehouses, construction sites and industrial facilities. The certifications are the part that stands up to checking. Massachusetts' Supplier Diversity Office has the company certified as an MBE, WBE and DBE under number 20120172, and the SBA's Woman-Owned and Economically Disadvantaged Woman-Owned Small Business certifications are both active into 2028. In a 2023 BBB story, president Carlene Damon described starting the business with her husband in 2012 as immigrants, going full-time in 2015 and becoming a union company in 2019. A May 2024 news article reported that clients rate her work highly and seek her out to meet diversity quotas on their jobs. Two things are worth pinning down on the phone. The company's own site and its BBB listing describe commercial and industrial fencing, while an emailed newsletter describes commercial, residential and industrial work — so if this is a house, ask straight out whether they take residential jobs and what one usually looks like for them. The site also claims over 30 years of experience, which sits oddly beside the 2012 founding date in the BBB story; ask what those 30 years cover. For a business property, a construction site, or a homeowner who gets a yes on residential work, this is a union shop whose certifications check out at both the state and federal registries. Get the scope and price in writing, and ask to see a couple of recent fence jobs nearby. **Strengths:** - State certifications — MBE, WBE and DBE verified active in Massachusetts - Federal WOSB certification — SBA certifications verified active until 2028 - Union shop — became a union company in 2019 - Full fence range — steel, aluminum, vinyl, wood, chain-link, bollards **Concerns:** - Commercial focus — site describes business, warehouse and construction-site fencing **Where sources disagree:** - The company's site and BBB listing describe commercial and industrial fencing, while an emailed newsletter describes commercial, residential and industrial work. - The site claims over 30 years of experience, while the 2023 BBB story and a newsletter date the founding to 2012. - The president is named Carlene Damon in the 2023 BBB story and Carlene Lewis in an ICIC listing and a newsletter. ## Claims & citations Every claim below is backed by real evidence rows — uncited claims are dropped in code before publication. -
