## The honest read

A backyard that its owner called "a graveyard of buried hopes" — seven years of shade killing everything planted in it — was finally sorted out by Ryan Wikman in a June 2026 project. That is the kind of problem this Winchester studio takes on: the yard that has already defeated somebody.

Chestnut Grove Design Group is a husband-and-wife firm. Ryan Wikman is the principal landscape designer, Christina Wikman handles interiors, and the two merged their separate practices into one studio. Both halves turn up in what customers write — planting beds, stone walls and pools from some, a living room and a daughter's bedroom from others. Christina had opened her own residential design firm in 2009, and Ryan had run a landscape company for a decade before the merger.

The landscape work runs from plan to planted. A December 2023 client had a complete rework that went from stone walls and perennial gardens to a new pool, with the wooded part of the property preserved and bee hives added along the way. In September 2025 another had trees and meadows designed and installed and said the one problem that came up was dealt with promptly. A March 2024 customer building a new house interviewed several landscape architects before picking the firm. In October 2025 a client was given a few plans to choose between, and the front-yard planting was executed on time and within budget. Decks come up as well: a September 2025 customer replaced an outdated deck with a much larger one after being walked through design, materials and contractor options, and another that month had a basketball court and deck built.

A few practical notes. The written history is small — 16 Google ratings and three on Houzz across eight years — so ask for references from a project like yours. The Houzz profile places the firm in Woburn while the studio's own site and this listing say Winchester, so confirm where you are meeting. And although reviews under the Chestnut Grove name go back to 2018, a Winchester News item reported the studio's grand opening on 17 April 2026, and the company's own site gives no founding year for the merged practice — worth asking how long the combined firm has been running.

If you want the landscape designed and the installation managed by the same person, or the yard and the inside of the house handled by one small team, this is that kind of studio. Settle the plan, the plant schedule and who manages the installing crews before the work starts.

**Strengths:**
- Design and install together — plans drawn, then the crews managed through
- Shade solved — planting that lived where nothing had before
- On budget — a 2025 front-yard planting delivered on time and to budget
- Two disciplines — landscape and interior design from one small team
- Problems answered — a 2025 client's single issue fixed promptly

**Concerns:**
- Small written history — 16 Google ratings and three Houzz accounts since 2018
- Two towns listed — Houzz shows Woburn, the studio's site says Winchester
- Merged-firm age unclear — no founding year given for Chestnut Grove itself

**Where sources disagree:**
- The Houzz profile lists the company in Woburn, MA, while its own website and this listing give Winchester, MA.
- Reviews under the Chestnut Grove Design Group name run back to 2018, while a Winchester News item described the studio's grand opening on 17 April 2026; the company's own site gives no founding year for the merged firm.
