## The honest read

Clear River Fuel Oil describes itself on its website as a local, veteran-owned small business providing full-service heating oil deliveries along with heating and cooling services in central Connecticut. Its stated service area includes Andover, Avon, East Hartford, Enfield and Glastonbury. Its BBB page is an A+.

A 2024 customer wrote that Clear River did not force them to commit to the company and would deliver within a day's notice, where many other local oil businesses they had tried would only deliver with an annual contract. A 2022 customer said that after running out of oil because of a broken gauge they did not know about, they had heat back on the same day. A 2023 customer said they found their oil tank empty and in need of service one Friday morning, and by Friday evening the company had worked to resolve the situation. A 2023 customer who switched from a pricier supplier said delivery was made the next day. A 2023 customer said Jeff came over and did a complete tune-up of their water heater and explained everything in detail. A 2026 customer said they had been customers for 20 years and thanked Dan and team for keeping them warm. A 2026 Reddit commenter in r/Connecticut pointed to its automatic delivery and online ordering.

A 2026 customer of seven years said Clear River was refusing to deliver oil to their address after they fixed their tank whistle. A 2022 customer said an emergency fill ordered on a Saturday was set for Monday, and on Monday the company called to say it could not justify driving two towns over to fill the tank given its order quantity in that area.

**Strengths:**
- No annual contract — a 2024 customer said Clear River did not force a commitment
- Same-day heat — a 2022 customer had heat back the day they ran out
- Next-day delivery — a 2023 customer said delivery came the day after switching

**Concerns:**
- Refused delivery — a 2026 customer said Clear River stopped delivering after a tank-whistle fix
- Emergency fill cancelled — a 2022 customer said the Monday delivery was called off
