## The honest read

On Thumbtack, Coastal Construction Group says its founder spent 15 years as a carpenter before forming the company, and lists general carpentry work such as siding, framing, drywall, trim and cabinets.

The newest Google review is a 1-star account: the customer writes that Wes "took the doors off my home, then robbed me of $1,200 and disappeared," and says they are suing for the money back. A 2025 Thumbtack customer cited poor communication and response time.

A 2023 customer said they paid a $68,000 upfront deposit for a bathroom and mudroom remodel, and that the work did not meet the agreed timeline or industry standards. That 2023 customer wrote that fixing poor workmanship in the 75-square-foot bathroom would cost another $15,000, and that Wes, the CEO of the company, blocked their cellphone number. A 2023 reviewer who hired the company for a bathroom remodel and a new mudroom wrote that the quality was "at a level of a poorly done DIY project" and that a different contractor was needed to fix the job. That 2023 reviewer said they gave Wes more than $60,000.

A 2023 customer said Wes's team put up a new tub and shower surround, and that Wes later gave them a price on taking out the old tub and putting in a new one. A 2022 customer said Coastal did new James Hardie siding on a house in Wallingford and kept a clean site. A 2024 Google customer said Coastal did their roof, with clean and quick work. A 2024 Thumbtack customer said Wes had an emergency and missed the first estimate appointment, came the next day, and finished within the estimated time frame.

Connecticut lists its home improvement contractor registration, HIC.0667678, as inactive due to non-renewal, held by COASTAL CONSTRUCTION GROUP LLC.

**Strengths:**
- James Hardie siding — a 2022 customer said the site was kept clean
- A roof job — a 2024 customer called the work clean and quick

**Concerns:**
- A $1,200 dispute — a 2026 customer says Wes took the money and disappeared
- A remodel deposit — a 2023 customer paid $68,000 and asked for a refund
- Bathroom remodel quality — a 2023 reviewer compared it to poorly done DIY
- Poor communication — a 2025 Thumbtack customer cited slow response time
