The Copper & Slate Company works out of Waltham and describes itself as a fine roofing and exterior finish carpentry contractor built around those two materials — the kind of roof that wants a crew who has handled it before. A 2021 Google reviewer put names to that crew: Garrett Laws, working with Bob and Omri, who the reviewer said know copper, slate and older roofs, and recommended them for slate and copper roof work. The company has been at this a while. Its BBB profile puts the founding at 1999 and the payroll at eight people, and its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, #165700, is active on the state registry. The company says it works Brookline, Cambridge, Chestnut Hill, Concord, Newton, Waban and Wellesley. If you have a slate or copper roof on an older house, this is a narrow specialist rather than a general roofer, which is usually what that job calls for. Before booking, ask to see recent slate or copper jobs nearby, confirm the registration and insurance, and get the scope of any flashing and finish carpentry work in writing. **Strengths:** - Copper and slate — a 2021 reviewer praised the crew's work on older roofs - Active state registration — home improvement registration #165700 verified active on the registry - Established 1999 — BBB lists eight employees at the Waltham company ## Claims & citations Every claim below is backed by real evidence rows — uncited claims are dropped in code before publication. - Waltham roofing and exterior finish carpentry contractor specializing in copper and slate work _(confidence: high)_ - [Official Website](http://www.copperandslate.net) — “The Copper & Slate Company is a Waltham, MA fine roofing and exterior finish carpentry contractor specializing in copper and slate work.” - Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration #165700 is active on the state registry _(confidence: high)_ - [State License Registry](https://contractorhub.mass.gov/s/hic-contractor-search) — “MA hic license 165700 registry-verified active — registry holder of record: THE COPPER & SLATE COMPANY, INC.” - BBB lists the company as established in 1999 with eight employees _(confidence: medium)_ - [Better Business Bureau](https://www.bbb.org/us/ma/waltham/profile/roofing-contractors/the-copper-slate-company-inc-0021-97122) — “BBB profile (not accredited, not rated) for The Copper & Slate Company, Inc., a Waltham, MA slate and copper roofing and maintenance company…” - A 2021 Google reviewer recommended Garrett Laws and his crew, Bob and Omri, for slate and copper roof work _(confidence: medium)_ - [Google Reviews](https://maps.google.com/?cid=5677371943325836533&g_mp=CiVnb29nbGUubWFwcy5wbGFjZXMudjEuUGxhY2VzLkdldFBsYWNlEAIYBCAA) — “5★ If you are looking for expert craftsmanship and service, for your slate and copper roof, definitely check out Garrett Laws and his team a…” - Slate roofing, copper roofing and maintenance listed on its BBB profile _(confidence: medium)_ - [Better Business Bureau](https://www.bbb.org/us/ma/waltham/profile/roofing-contractors/the-copper-slate-company-inc-0021-97122) — “Services offered (Better Business Bureau): Slate Roofing, Copper Roofing, Maintenance” - The company names Brookline, Cambridge, Chestnut Hill, Concord, Newton, Waban and Wellesley as its service area _(confidence: medium)_ - [Official Website](http://www.copperandslate.net) — “Stated service area (self-reported): Brookline, Cambridge, Chestnut Hill, Concord, Newton, Waban, Wellesley” - A 5-star Google rating from one review, written in August 2021 _(confidence: high)_ - [Google](https://www.google.com/maps/search/?api=1&query=Copper%20%26%20Slate%20Company%2C%20Inc&query_place_id=ChIJM-hMlcaC44kR9aS007MTyk4) — “Google: 5★ from 1 ratings” - [Google Reviews](https://maps.google.com/?cid=5677371943325836533&g_mp=CiVnb29nbGUubWFwcy5wbGFjZXMudjEuUGxhY2VzLkdldFBsYWNlEAIYBCAA) — “5★ If you are looking for expert craftsmanship and service, for your slate and copper roof, definitely check out Garrett Laws and his team a…” - Specializes in Roofing _(confidence: high)_ - [Better Business Bureau](https://www.bbb.org/us/ma/waltham/profile/roofing-contractors/the-copper-slate-company-inc-0021-97122) — “Services offered (Better Business Bureau): Slate Roofing, Copper Roofing, Maintenance” - [Official Website](http://www.copperandslate.net) — “The Copper & Slate Company is a Waltham, MA fine roofing and exterior finish carpentry contractor specializing in copper and slate work.” - Also offers Carpentry _(confidence: medium)_ - [Official Website](http://www.copperandslate.net) — “The Copper & Slate Company is a Waltham, MA fine roofing and exterior finish carpentry contractor specializing in copper and slate work.” ## License Status: **active** (#165700, hic) — verified against the official MA state registry on 2026-09-06, never self-reported.
