## The honest read

A backyard that was half asphalt. A stone wall giving way. A side yard too pretty to gut but unusable with young kids. The jobs homeowners bring Curbs Studio tend to start as problems — an April 2026 Houzz reviewer came out of theirs with a new stone wall with granite seating, plus the digging and foundation work for a new garage.

Curbs Studio is a Wellesley design-build landscape firm. Its site says it designs, builds with an in-house crew and then maintains residential outdoor spaces across Boston Metro West, names Wellesley, Needham and Newton among the towns it serves, and claims 20 years in business. A 2023 Charles River Chamber profile describes Lucas Machado as its owner and CEO.

The same names recur across years of reviews — Lucas on design, Nilton running the construction crew, with Nayara and Garrett named alongside them — and so do the same customers. A May 2025 reviewer counted three major projects plus ongoing maintenance over close to six years. On Google the firm holds 5★ from 22 ratings; its Houzz profile is 5.0 across 42 ratings, with 39 projects posted and nine Best of Houzz awards.

Stone and grade are what the work keeps coming back to. In a December 2025 review, a couple describe Lucas and Nilton walking the property at the first meeting and picking out erosion and drainage problems. Walls turn up in several accounts: a crumbling retaining wall replaced in December 2023, a new retaining wall paired with a patio in October 2024, a front wall with a back patio and driveway in November 2023. A July 2025 Houzz reviewer had a patio, new stairs and pool coping put in, and an October 2022 customer swapped brick-and-mulch front and side yards for a deck, an outdoor kitchen and a dining area.

One thing to sort out before you call: the Houzz profile lists a different phone number and website — curbsinc.net — than the company's other listings, so confirm which line reaches the office. Houzz also lists construction supervisor licence CS-224594. On cost, a January 2024 customer who had a driveway moved and a shed added called it very reasonable, and a July 2023 customer called the tree planting and landscape work fairly priced.

The right call for a property with something actually wrong with it — erosion, a slope, a wall that has given out — and for homeowners who want one firm from the drawings through the planting. Agree what the maintenance covers once the build is finished, and check which phone number you are dialing.

**Strengths:**
- Difficult sites — erosion, slopes and failing walls repeatedly taken on
- Stonework — walkways, patios and granite-seated walls described by customers
- In-house crew — design and construction run by one firm
- Repeat clients — one counted three projects over nearly six years
- Named team — Lucas and Nilton recur across years of reviews
- Houzz standing — 5.0 from 42 ratings, nine Best of Houzz awards

**Where sources disagree:**
- Curbs Studio's Houzz profile lists the phone number (781) 527-9812 and the website www.curbsinc.net, both different from the phone number and website shown on its other listings.
