## The honest read

East Bay Window & Remodeling, based in Bristol, Rhode Island, has a long written history and a split one. The company says on Houzz that it has over 46 years of experience, and on the Better Business Bureau it describes itself as specializing in vinyl replacement windows, kitchen and bathroom design, vinyl siding, additions and patio enclosures. Its customer reviews sit on Angi — 3.9 stars from 25 ratings — and run from 2003 to 2023.

The best of them center on Joe. In a 2016 review, a customer said Joe knew every part of the project from permits to inspections to dealing with insurance and mortgage companies, that calls were answered within minutes even on weekends, and that the site was left clean every day. A 2012 reviewer said Joe brought in a plumber and an electrician, and a 2010 customer described a larger attic dormer and playroom finished quickly, though the bills went over the original bid. The most recent written review, from 2023, says only that they did an excellent job.

The complaints are specific. In a 2017 review, a customer who had a front porch rebuilt for a bill of more than $40,000 said the finish work was sub-par and the company never returned to fix the problems after being paid. A December 2017 reviewer reported a leaking window installation with no follow-through. In a 2020 review, a customer said they paid a deposit for materials the previous May and no work had been done. A 2014 reviewer said extra charges were announced when the job was 90% complete. Two reviews, from 2003 and 2015, said projects took twice as long as stated, the 2015 one blaming February weather. Its single Google rating is 1 star.

Rhode Island's contractor registry lists its home improvement contractor registration, #GC-17116, as expired.

**Strengths:**
- Permit handling — a 2016 customer said Joe managed permits and inspections
- Quick dormer build — a 2010 customer said the attic dormer finished quickly

**Concerns:**
- Unfixed porch work — a 2017 customer said promised repairs never happened
- Deposit kept — a 2020 reviewer said no work followed a materials deposit
- Leaking windows — a December 2017 reviewer saw no follow-through on leaks
- Expired registration — Rhode Island registry lists HIC #GC-17116 as expired
