## The honest read

Fire & Ice Heating & Air Conditioning holds 4.2 stars from 43 Google ratings, and the company says it has been in business for 35 years. A 2025 r/connecticut commenter wrote that they used Fire & Ice out of Granby and it had been good to work with.

A recent customer said the AC stopped working completely, the receptionist got them an appointment the same day, and the cause turned out to be a bad contactor that took out the transformer, along with a failing capacitor. That customer said they fixed everything and added a fuse so it doesn't happen again. A recent customer who had two earlier quotes, one to replace the whole system, said Joe came out to service the heat pump and they were out a service fee and a capacitor. A recent r/connecticut commenter said Fire & Ice installed a Bosch 20 seer 5 ton heat pump and Bosch furnace in Canton, $20K all in, with rebates trimming quite a bit off the top.

A 2026 customer said the jobs included replacing a hot water tank, repairing and upgrading the oil burner and thermostat, and replacing the oil line and filter to code. A 2024 customer said Kevin worked on the furnace and water heater and fixed both. A 2023 customer said Kevin came out the next day for a Google Nest thermostat problem that a different company could not find. A 2023 customer said Fire and Ice did the annual maintenance on an oil fired boiler, including a complete combustion analysis, for less money than the prior company. A 2023 customer said Gary helped with supplemental heat while the furnace was down.

A 2025 customer whose furnace was smoking said about $2,000 of work was done before the company communicated completely, and that a later no-heat call took two calls over two hours to get a call back. A 2024 customer said a scheduled warranty maintenance appointment was cancelled for a third time after spending 15K on a new furnace. A 2024 customer said measurements were taken for a two-zone mini split bid, but over three weeks passed with no word on the proposal. A 2024 customer said over a month passed without a quote back on a mini split system. A 2023 customer called the communication horrible and said the company never answers or responds when they reach out. A 2022 customer said a heat pump repair that was to cost $2,000 ended up costing over $10,500 after a switching valve attempt, a new air handler and a new heat pump.

**Strengths:**
- Same-day AC appointment — a recent customer got an appointment the same day
- Contactor and capacitor fix — a recent customer said a fuse was added too
- Boiler combustion analysis — a 2023 customer got one with annual maintenance
- Nest thermostat repair — a 2023 customer said Kevin came the next day

**Concerns:**
- Escalating repair bill — a 2022 customer's $2,000 repair ended over $10,500
- Slow mini-split quote — a 2024 customer waited over a month without one
- Warranty visit cancellations — a 2024 customer's appointment was cancelled a third time
- Smoking furnace dispute — a 2025 customer said work preceded full communication
