## The honest read

Fitton Moving & Storage is a Fitchburg, MA mover that describes itself as a third-generation, family-owned business founded in 1945 — though the Better Business Bureau's own profile for the same company lists a 1988 start date, a discrepancy worth knowing about. It carries a BBB A+ grade and accreditation, and the BBB profile lists a business license number issued by the state's Transportation Division.

On Google, it holds a 4.9★ average from 22 ratings, and several recent reviews describe sizeable jobs handled carefully. Eric and his crew packed and moved 4,500 pounds of household goods in under seven hours for a military overseas move, with the reviewer saying they never felt worried about their belongings. Another recent review describes a two-day, two-state job — a pack-up in Massachusetts on a Thursday and an unload in Maine the next day — that came in on the estimate the crew had given.

Not every account is glowing. A recent review describes a short local move that ran 4.5 hours against a 3-hour estimate; the customer credited awkward stairs as a factor but still came away unimpressed. A separate, undated Better Business Bureau review is more serious — it describes a job Fitton outsourced to another company that arrived late, damaged items, and left work unfinished. It's a real complaint worth asking about, even without a date attached.

For a local move or a larger interstate one, this crew has a solid recent run of reviews behind it — just ask directly whether your move will be handled by Fitton's own crew or a subcontractor.

**Strengths:**
- Handles big jobs — packed 4,500 lbs for a military move
- On-estimate pricing — two-state job matched the quote
- BBB accredited — A+ grade on file

**Concerns:**
- Ran long once — a local move took 4.5 hrs vs. 3-hr quote
- Outsourcing risk — one BBB complaint blames a subcontracted crew

**Where sources disagree:**
- The company's own site says it was founded in 1945 and has operated for about 80 years as a third-generation family business; the Better Business Bureau's profile for the same business lists a start date of 4/1/1988 (38 years).
