Ground Breakers Building & Excavation Services LLC says it builds new homes in Litchfield, Fairfield and New Haven counties, and its website lists excavation, new home construction, septic, drainage and driveway repair. The company says it has been in business 33 years. It holds a 5-star average across 11 Google ratings and an A+ grade from the Better Business Bureau, and Litchfield Magazine has run a piece titled "Ground Breakers CT: The Steiners’ Family-Built Dream Homes." A 2023 customer replaced a 1948 cottage with a log cabin kit home. That 2023 customer said Lee explained that a new home could not be built on an old foundation of stacked cinderblocks, then worked with them through financing hiccups, building materials shortages, a tropical storm and boulders in the crawl space area so they were in the new home before winter. A 2023 customer said the Steiners came in during covid and helped with finding the land, financing and the finished home. A 2023 customer said they had used Groundbreakers for almost 19 years for their company's site work and building needs, and that pricing had always been fair. A 2023 customer said Lee broke the building process down into simple terms and looked out for the project through changes along the way. Connecticut lists its home improvement contractor registration, HIC.0628889, as active, held by Ground Breakers Building and Excavation LLC. **Strengths:** - Historic home restoration — a 2024 customer's 260-year-old Colonial won a HOBI award - A cabin home build — a 2023 customer moved in before winter - Long-term site work — a 2023 customer had used them for almost 19 years ## Claims & citations Every claim below is backed by real evidence rows — uncited claims are dropped in code before publication. - A 2024 customer said the company renovated and restored a 260-year-old Colonial in Litchfield that won a Connecticut HOBI award _(confidence: high)_ - [Google Reviews](https://www.google.com/maps/reviews/data=!4m8!14m7!1m6!2m5!1sChZDSUhNMG9nS0VJQ0FnSUNOdGRiWUpnEAE!2m1!1s0x0:0x7d547aa3e014514!3m1!1s2@1:CIHM0ogKEICAgICNtdbYJg%7C%7C?hl=en-US) — “5★ Ground Breakers renovated and restored our 260 year old Colonial in Litchfield CT and did an amazing job.
