One wrote that he had used him twice and been happy with the work both times; the other seconded it, and in the same breath named two other Boston-area inspectors he rates as well. Behind the name is Joseph Aiello, working on his own out of Winthrop. His Massachusetts home inspector licence, 773-HI-1, is active on the state registry under his own name. He says he holds ACI status with the American Society of Home Inspectors and served a three-year term as a director on its board. The company covers single- and multi-family houses, condos, new construction, older homes and high-end estates across Greater Boston. With a one-inspector shop, availability is the practical question — he is the only person who can do the inspection, so a tight closing date is worth raising on the first call. Ask how soon he can get to the property and when the written report follows. If you are buying an older Boston-area house and want the person who walks the roof to be the person who writes the report, this is a straightforward call to make. Ask what the fee covers — radon, sewer line, outbuildings, detached garages — and whether he will go through the findings with you on site. **Strengths:** - Active state licence — the registry verifies his home inspector number - Repeat customer — a Reddit commenter says he used him twice - Inspector is the owner — the person you hire does the inspection - ASHI background — he says he served on the society's board **Concerns:** - One-inspector shop — scheduling rests on a single person's calendar - Two Reddit mentions — the public word of mouth is one thread ## Claims & citations Every claim below is backed by real evidence rows — uncited claims are dropped in code before publication. - A Reddit commenter on r/massachusetts in August 2026 wrote that they had used Gumshoe twice and been happy with the work. _(confidence: medium)_ - [reddit.com](https://www.reddit.com/r/massachusetts/comments/1vneejw/fantastic_home_inspector/p3grwz4/) — “r/massachusetts — I’ve used Gumshoe twice and have been happy with his work” - A second commenter in the same August 2026 thread seconded the recommendation, naming two other Boston-area inspectors alongside it. _(confidence: medium)_ - [reddit.com](https://www.reddit.com/r/massachusetts/comments/1vneejw/fantastic_home_inspector/p3gszfl/) — “r/massachusetts — Second Gumshoe!
