## The honest read

Handyman and JB Painting is a Gloucester operation run by Juan Velasquez that blends house painting with general handyman work — and the reviews suggest the handyman side is doing a lot of the heavy lifting. In a 2023 review, one client described using Juan and his team for almost three years across a striking range of jobs: weekly power-washing and yard care, repairing severe water damage, building paver patios, a major landscaping project, seasonal opening and closing, moving furniture and a basement cleanout, building an outdoor shower enclosure, and annual plantings.

On the painting side, a separate 2023 review described the crew painting a kitchen and three bedrooms and called it 'a perfect job,' while an undated Better Business Bureau review from a several-years-long customer said the business has painted interior and exterior work on multiple homes. Another BBB review, from a repeat exterior-painting client, noted that the solid-color stain used holds up well but occasionally needs restoring after prolonged weathering and sun exposure — a normal maintenance note rather than a complaint. Its BBB profile carries an A+ grade, though the business isn't accredited there.

One thing worth asking about directly: HomeAdvisor lists 26 years of experience and Angi lists 21, but the BBB's own incorporation record shows the company started in 2019 — closer to seven years — so the marketing tenure claims on those two directories don't match the business's actual founding date.

For someone who wants one contact for both painting and the broader list of seasonal property tasks — patios, plantings, cleanouts — Juan's team looks like a solid fit; just confirm the real timeline and current references before booking.

**Strengths:**
- A+ BBB grade — highest rating, though not accredited
- Long-time client — three years of patios, landscaping, water damage repair
- Repeat painting customers — kitchen and bedrooms called a perfect job
- Broad service list — seasonal upkeep, cleanouts, outdoor structures

**Concerns:**
- Tenure claims — HomeAdvisor/Angi cite decades; BBB shows 2019 start

**Where sources disagree:**
- HomeAdvisor claims 26 years of experience and Angi claims 21 years, both conflicting with the BBB's own record showing the business started in 2019 (about seven years) — the same tenure claimed differently across three directories.

- HomeAdvisor claims 26 years of experience and Angi claims 21, but the BBB's own record shows the business was started in 2019 and incorporated in 2020 — a tenure claim overstated by three to four times what the actual founding date supports. _(confidence: high)_
