## The honest read

Hemlock Contracting LLC, trading as Hemlock Decks & Porches, is a Worcester-based outdoor-living contractor. Its own site says the business traces back to November 2012, when owner Teddy Labonte started it with his father after years working as a carpenter, moving over time from general contracting into exterior remodeling and then into decks, porches and outdoor living specifically.

Decks and porches are clearly the headline: Houzz shows eight project galleries — a covered porch addition in Milford, a deck and railing in Auburn, a back deck in Grafton — with typical jobs running $8,000 to $20,000, and a 2025 Reddit comment in r/WorcesterMA mentioned hiring the company for a deck back in 2020. Beyond decks, the business also takes on additions, roofing, and siding, per its own listings and several directories.

The written review record is thin but consistent: five reviews on file from 2022 into 2023, all positive, describing professional, timely work at a reasonable price on jobs in the $11,000-$20,000 range. The company is a BBB Accredited Business with an A+ grade since 2023, and Massachusetts's own registry confirms its home improvement contractor registration is active — though one directory, BuildZoom, separately shows no active license on file, a discrepancy worth noting even though the state's own record is the more authoritative one here. There's also a gap in how long the business says it's been around: its own site points to 2012, while BBB counts about five years from its 2021 incorporation.

For a deck, porch, or outdoor-living project in the Worcester area, this is a business with real project history and an active state registration — worth confirming current pricing and timeline directly given how few written reviews are on file.

**Strengths:**
- Verified active license — Massachusetts HIC registration confirmed active
- Deck specialist reputation — Houzz and Reddit point to consistent deck/porch work
- Consistently positive reviews — small review set is uniformly five-star

**Where sources disagree:**
- BuildZoom shows no active license on file and lists the license status as unable to verify, while Massachusetts's own registry confirms the company's home improvement contractor registration is active
- The company's self-reported founding (its own site points to November 2012, roughly 13 years) doesn't match BBB's business-registration record, which counts about five years since incorporation in 2021
