## The honest read

Hubley Painting & Remodeling started as a painter and has moved into remodeling, kitchens especially, often repainting the existing cabinets instead of replacing them. The family-owned company is based in Hopkinton with an address in Marlborough, and it says it has worked across MetroWest for 30 years. Steve Hubley is listed as founder and Jake Hubley as president. It holds 4.8 stars from 62 Google ratings and 4.8 from 25 on Houzz.

In an August 2026 review, a customer described a 40-year-old kitchen transformed: the old cherry cabinets painted, two custom cabinets built with dovetail drawers, and new countertops, lighting and a tile backsplash. A June 2024 reviewer described a kitchen renovation with structural changes, previewed in 3D software beforehand. Customers come back. A May 2025 customer said it was their third project, after a 2023 kitchen refresh and a bathroom remodel, and a January 2024 reviewer called themselves a four-time customer.

In a June 2026 review, a customer who contracted for a kitchen renovation in December 2025 gave two stars. They said communication declined as the job went on, they had to point out quality problems themselves, including a refrigerator enclosure built incorrectly, and refinished hardwood floors were left uneven. In a September 2017 Houzz review, a customer said that after they gave the go-ahead on an exterior painting job, the company never answered their calls or emails about when it would start.

Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, #179917 under Hubley Painting & Carpentry, Inc., is active on the state registry.

**Strengths:**
- Cabinet repainting — kitchens refreshed without replacing cabinets
- Repeat clients — several customers came back for multiple projects

**Concerns:**
- Kitchen follow-through — a 2026 customer had to flag defects themselves
