In a December 2025 Google review, a customer said Mike also found a cracked hinge and worn roller on a double-wide door, lubricated the moving parts, explained the work and broke down the costs. A May 2026 customer described him repairing a bottom seal and praised both the price and help from Elizabeth in the office. The Worcester company describes itself as a third-generation family business serving Worcester County since 1953. Its website advertises garage door sales, installation and repair, free estimates and insurance. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active under Independent Garage Door Corp. The Better Business Bureau gives it an A+ grade; Google lists 4.9 stars from 86 ratings and Angi lists 5 stars from 33 ratings. Repair accounts include explanations of what needed replacing and what could stay. A customer writing in June 2025 said Mike and an associate replaced broken springs and pulleys, then checked a second door. They replaced that door's springs preventatively but serviced its existing pulleys because replacement was unnecessary. The customer described an itemized estimate and a total of about $300 for the service call and parts. In May 2025, another reviewer said technicians addressed additional hardware problems and explained maintenance. When a spring snapped during the work, they returned with new springs in less than an hour. The final invoice exceeded the original estimate, though it was still below what the customer had expected. Older reviews describe installations and follow-up repairs. In August 2023, an Angi customer said Vincent installed a door earlier than expected after a scheduling opening, explained the steps, helped troubleshoot an opener and cleaned the garage before leaving. A May 2021 reviewer described a return visit to adjust sensors at no extra charge after a door began clicking and would not close. There have also been delays. A February 2017 reviewer praised the replacement-door installation but reported a missed appointment and another appointment they had to reschedule. A February 2020 customer described a long wait for doors to arrive, followed by a smooth installation. A December 2018 reviewer said the manufacturer delayed the doors and the office manager kept them updated on scheduling. **Strengths:** - Repair explanations — a December 2025 customer praised explanations and itemized costs - Installation cleanup — an August 2023 reviewer described Vincent cleaning the garage - Follow-up adjustment — a May 2021 reviewer reported free sensor adjustment **Concerns:** - Appointment disruption — a February 2017 reviewer reported missed and rescheduled appointments - Door delivery wait — a February 2020 reviewer described a long wait - Estimate overrun — a May 2025 customer's final invoice exceeded the original estimate **Where sources disagree:** - The company website dates its history to 1953; a January 2018 Angi customer described a family origin in the 1940s. ## Claims & citations Every claim below is backed by real evidence rows — uncited claims are dropped in code before publication. - The company describes itself as a third-generation family business serving Worcester County since 1953. _(confidence: high)_ - [Official Website](https://www.independentgaragedoor.com) — “About (self-reported, verbatim): Welcome to Independent Garage Doors, your trusted source for garage door sales, installation, and repair se…” - Its website advertises free estimates and states that it is insured. _(confidence: high)_ - [Official Website](https://www.independentgaragedoor.com) — “Stated offer (self-reported): free estimates” - [Official Website](https://www.independentgaragedoor.com) — “Stated offer (self-reported): insured” - Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration 170687 is active under Independent Garage Door Corp. _(confidence: high)_ - [State License Registry](https://contractorhub.mass.gov/s/hic-contractor-search) — “MA hic license 170687 registry-verified active — registry holder of record: INDEPENDENT GARAGE DOOR CORP.” - The BBB gives the business an A+ grade; Google lists 4.9 stars from 86 ratings and Angi lists 5 stars from 33 ratings. _(confidence: high)_ - [Google](https://www.google.com/maps/search/?api=1&query=Independent%20Garage%20Doors&query_place_id=ChIJ-cJcenkG5IkRISGIascj5kQ) — “Google: 4.9★ from 86 ratings” - [Better Business Bureau](https://www.bbb.org/us/ma/worcester/profile/garage-doors/independent-garage-door-corp-0261-101593) — “Better Business Bureau grade: A+” - [Angi](https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/ma/worcester/independent-garage-door-reviews-4505342.htm) — “Angi: 5.0★ from 33 ratings” - A December 2025 reviewer said Mike replaced a broken spring, found a cracked hinge and worn roller, lubricated moving parts and explained the costs. _(confidence: high)_ - [Google Reviews](https://maps.google.com/?cid=4964694978615320865&g_mp=CiVnb29nbGUubWFwcy5wbGFjZXMudjEuUGxhY2VzLkdldFBsYWNlEAIYBCAA) — “5★ Mike replaced a broken spring on my garage door and trouble shot several other small problems that affected the operation of my double wi…” - A June 2025 reviewer described an itemized estimate and spring and pulley work on two garage doors, totaling about $300. _(confidence: high)_ - [Google Reviews](https://maps.google.com/?cid=4964694978615320865&g_mp=CiVnb29nbGUubWFwcy5wbGFjZXMudjEuUGxhY2VzLkdldFBsYWNlEAIYBCAA) — “5★ One of the Best Home Service Experiences I Have Had in recent times.
