## The honest read

J.A. Proia Carpentry, doing business as J.A. Proia General Contractor, is a Stoughton, Massachusetts general contractor built around full-scale renovations — tear-downs, new builds, kitchen and bath remodels, whole-home renovations, excavation and site work, utility installation, and decks, working across the Greater Boston area. It's owner-operated, led by Joe Proia, who the company says works directly with clients from the first site walk through the final punch list.

Houzz reviews from 2014, 2016, and 2017 all gave the company 5 stars. A 2017 review described a remodel gutting six rooms — opening walls for a more open layout, new insulation, new windows, new interior and exterior doors, a new roof, updated electrical and plumbing, and new carpet and hardwood floors. A 2016 review described a gut renovation that ran nearly three years, calling the craftsmanship and attention to detail top notch.

A 2014 review called the work sites clean and the craftsmanship excellent, and noted the company also does excavating. BuildZoom shows 28 projects for the company, and Houzz has given it a Houzz Award and Houzz Badge, named it Best of Houzz in 2018, and it's been featured in New England Home Magazine.

Its Construction Supervisor license number 066800 appears on its own website, Houzz, and BuildZoom. Its Houzz profile lists a Newton address, while the company's own site gives Stoughton — worth confirming which is current.

This is a strong call for a substantial gut renovation or whole-home remodel; ask for recent references, since the written record here runs 2014 to 2017, and confirm the address and current license status directly.

**Strengths:**
- 5.0 Houzz rating — average across three reviews from 2014 to 2017
- Houzz recognition — a Houzz Award, Houzz Badge, and Best of Houzz 2018
- Large-project praise — reviewers cite careful, professional whole-home gut renovations

**Where sources disagree:**
- Houzz lists a Newton, Massachusetts address for the company, while its own website states Stoughton, Massachusetts
