## The honest read

J.P. Smith Builders describes its work as rooted in traditional craftsmanship, running from exterior restoration and repair to custom millwork, cabinetry and interior renovations.

A recent Google customer hired J. Smith to restore a very old barn that doubles as a garage, and said he secured the entire structure with locally hewn hardwood beams while keeping the character of the original barn.

A recent customer who hired JP to remodel their stairs said the project replaced the carpet and existing treads with new oak treads, replaced the newel posts and dowels, secured posts that were very loose, and added a new railing, risers, side panels and a decorative runner. The same customer said JP was efficient and communicated well throughout the project.

A 2025 customer said JP worked on both the interior and exterior of their home, often putting in 9-hour days to get the job done. A 2024 customer said JP had done various construction and home maintenance projects in their older Cape home over the previous four years. A 2024 customer who used J.P. for multiple contractor jobs at their business said he always showed up when he said he would.

**Strengths:**
- Barn restoration — a recent customer said he secured it with hardwood beams
- A stair remodel — new oak treads, railing, risers and a decorative runner
- Clear communication — a recent stair customer said JP communicated well throughout
- Repeat projects — a 2024 customer said JP worked on their Cape for four years
