A recent customer said their chimney top was redone and lined at a reasonable cost, and that Joe is honest with them. A Reddit commenter in r/Connecticut wrote that Joe had installed a chimney liner for them the year before. A 2026 customer said a large company found a new furnace vented into an unlined, partially collapsed flue and wanted to tear down and rebuild the chimney; Joe said he could get a liner in without tearing it down, and did, two days later. A 2026 customer said a broken clay liner was sending furnace fumes and CO back down through the fireplace, and Joe picked up a 9 PM Friday call and replaced the liner with a stainless steel one in less than a week. A 2026 customer said Joe's team installed two liners and removed the clay tile, finishing in two days after quoting three. A 2026 customer said one of the big companies told them they needed $20-35k in work, and Joe did what needed to be done for under $6500. A 2025 customer said the chimney was taken down and rebuilt from the roof line up, with new flashing, brick, crown and cap, the day after the quote. A 2025 customer said their 160 year old chimney needed a rebuild from the attic floor up and a stainless steel liner, and that it was put back into working order. A 2025 customer said a removal and replacement of their front steps, begun 8 months earlier, left an unsightly mess and property damage, including hedges the owner dumped muriatic acid into after being told not to dispose of it there, and that they had not been compensated. A 2025 customer said the stairs came out terrible and he didn't finish them. Connecticut lists its home improvement contractor registration, HIC.0672117, as active, held by JL Chimney & Masonry LLC. **Strengths:** - Liner, no tear-down — a 2026 customer said Joe avoided rebuilding the chimney - A stainless steel liner — a 2026 customer had a broken clay liner replaced - A chimney top rebuild — a recent customer had loose bricks and tar sealing redone - A roof-line-up rebuild — a 2025 customer got it done the day after the quote **Concerns:** - A front steps project — a 2025 customer reported property damage and an unsightly mess - Unfinished stairs — a 2025 customer said the stairs came out terrible ## Claims & citations Every claim below is backed by real evidence rows — uncited claims are dropped in code before publication. - 4.9 stars from 83 Google ratings _(confidence: high)_ - [Google](https://www.google.com/maps/search/?api=1&query=JL%20Chimney%20%26%20Masonry%20LLC&query_place_id=ChIJp091ohWz54kRss3PLs8AH50) — “Google: 4.9★ from 83 ratings” - BBB grade of A- _(confidence: high)_ - [Better Business Bureau](https://www.bbb.org/us/ct/new-britain/profile/chimney-builders/jl-chimney-and-masonry-llc-0111-110092284) — “Better Business Bureau grade: A-” - A recent customer said the top several layers of their chimney were redone after an inspection found loose bricks _(confidence: high)_ - [Google Reviews](https://www.google.com/maps/reviews/data=!4m8!14m7!1m6!2m5!1sCi9DQUlRQUNvZENodHljRjlvT21sRlJsOU1VR1Y0U0dWQ1lqa3dTMlJLZEdjMWFsRRAB!2m1!1s0x0:0x9d1f00cf2ecfcdb2!3m1!1s2@1:CAIQACodChtycF9oOmlFRl9MUGV4SGVCYjkwS2RKdGc1alE%7C%7C?hl=en-US) — “5★ I had a great experience with JL Chimney & Masonry!
