## The honest read

KD Painting says it has been in business 21 years and lists a service area of West Hartford, Avon, Simsbury, Farmington, Glastonbury, Southington, Rocky Hill and Canton. It holds 4.9 stars from 171 Google ratings and an A+ grade from the Better Business Bureau.

On one recent customer's 1937 colonial, the crew spent 8 days restoring cedar siding: they scraped the old paint, primed the shakes, replaced wood that needed replacing and painted it. A recent customer with a three-story house built in 1899 said the estimate visit happened when promised and the quote was reasonable, but the house waited a while for a slot because he was booked up most of the summer. Darien and crew power washed, scraped and painted a shingle-sided house, deck and shed in West Hartford, and that customer then hired him to paint their son's house. Darien and his team did some extra painting one recent customer had not anticipated and did not charge extra for it. Darien and a colleague repaired and painted one recent customer's deck.

A 2025 customer said Darien and the team spent 2 weeks on a 1740s colonial with wood siding, doing wood repair and caulking and filling gaps near the roof line where animals had previously gotten in. That 2025 customer said one hedge was cut back significantly, and Darien reduced the final price without an argument. A 2025 customer said the team painted an entire home interior, including radiators, trim, ceilings and closet doors, and took care of ceiling repairs, taping and patching. A 2024 customer said Darien fixed a stain from a roof leak on a cathedral ceiling without painting the whole ceiling. In a 2023 review, a customer said his taper fixed plaster in a gutted kitchen and his crew painted the kitchen in one day.

A 2025 customer objected to a quote of 3k plus tax for a 600 square foot one-bedroom apartment.

Connecticut lists its home improvement contractor registration, HIC.0639457, as active, held by KD Painting and Home Improvement LLC.

**Strengths:**
- Cedar siding restoration — a recent customer described scraping, priming and wood replacement
- No charge for extras — a recent customer was not charged for unplanned painting
- Price cut over hedge — a 2025 customer said Darien reduced the final price
- Cathedral ceiling stain — a 2024 customer said it was fixed without full repaint

**Concerns:**
- Summer booking wait — a recent customer said he was booked most of summer
- Apartment quote — a 2025 customer objected to 3k plus tax for 600 square feet
