## The honest read

In a March 2019 review, a homeowner described the old fireplace Brad Kingsbury updated with added wood trim and a rustic mantle, and said they loved how it turned out. That is the kind of job people wrote about here: built-ins, mantels, coffered ceilings — the work a finish carpenter gets called for. Kingsbury Woodworking & Design is Brad Kingsbury's shop in Scituate, and its Houzz profile puts it at over 15 years of custom carpentry and remodeling on the South Shore.

Its written record runs February 2018 to December 2022, and on Houzz it is all five stars — 5.0 across six reviews, plus three Houzz awards and two badges. A February 2018 homeowner described built-ins he designed, built and installed for their living room, and said they would use him again. A January 2019 customer in Cohasset had a coffered kitchen ceiling done, fitted in while Brad waited for another job to start. In April 2018 another wrote that he was there when he said he would be and stayed a step ahead of them. The most recent written account, from December 2022, credits his work ethic and his management of the job.

Google tells a different story: 3.6 stars from five ratings, and a two-star note in May 2022 from a homeowner who wanted stairs and banisters redone. Brad came out for the initial measurement without his equipment — the customer had forgotten their keys, and said as much — and told them he would call the following Monday to reschedule.

Then the licence. The Massachusetts construction supervisor licence in Brad P. Kingsbury's name, CS-085638 — the same number the Houzz profile lists — is expired on the state registry. Ask where that stands before any job that needs one.

For built-ins, mantels, trim and ceiling work on the South Shore, the homeowners who hired him between 2018 and 2022 describe careful work and a well-run job. Houzz puts a typical project between $15,000 and $100,000. Get the scope and the start date in writing, confirm the licence status, and pin down that first measurement visit before you count on a date.

**Strengths:**
- Custom built-ins — a February 2018 homeowner praised the design and install
- Coffered ceilings — a January 2019 Cohasset kitchen job squeezed between others
- Fireplace mantels — a March 2019 review describes new trim and mantle
- Kept to schedule — an April 2018 customer said he came when promised
- Houzz standing — 5.0 across six reviews, three awards, two badges

**Concerns:**
- Expired supervisor licence — CSL CS-085638 shows expired on the state registry
- Measurement visit — May 2022 two-star review after he arrived without his equipment

**Where sources disagree:**
- Google's 3.6 from five ratings sits well below the 5.0 Houzz shows across six reviews.
- The same February 2018 review about custom living-room built-ins appears twice on Houzz, dated four days apart.
