## The honest read

Lambert and Barr LLC describes itself on its website as a family-owned general contractor and builder based in New Milford, CT, taking residential and commercial/non-profit work, and says it has been in business 53 years. The Better Business Bureau lists it as accredited with an A+ grade.

A recent customer said Jim and his crew finished a very complicated barn restoration in their tight timeline. The lead pastor of Echo Grace Church New Milford wrote that the company renovated the church, took on several longstanding issues that had been neglected for years, and stayed on schedule. An out-of-state property owner who needed repairs said Lambert & Barr was one of only two of six contractors who called back, fit the job into its schedule right away, and regularly sent photos and videos of the progress.

A 2026 customer said the company built a major addition onto their home, including a larger master bedroom with a vaulted ceiling and exposed wooden beam, a walk-in closet, a spacious bathroom and a covered porch. That 2026 customer said the company handled the job from design and architectural planning through excavation, foundation work and framing. A 2024 customer said Jen and her crew renovated their bathroom; the job took a little longer than expected but came in on budget. A 2023 customer said the company repaired a basement that had suffered water damage, and a 2022 customer said it completed renovations of a basement family and laundry room.

A 2025 customer said the company called back three weeks after a request for an estimate on small jobs, came out to look, and never called back with the estimate. In a 2017 Houzz review, a customer who hired the company after a fire said it "butchered our cabinets," double charged for some items, and left stairs, a deck, a front porch and part of the roof that had to be fixed or replaced.

Connecticut lists its home improvement contractor registration, HIC.0548639, as active, held by Lambert and Barr LLC.

**Strengths:**
- A barn restoration — a recent customer said it was finished in a tight timeline
- Remote progress updates — an out-of-state owner received regular photos and videos
- A church renovation — the lead pastor said the company stayed on schedule
- A home addition — a 2026 customer said it was handled start to finish

**Concerns:**
- An unsent estimate — a 2025 customer never got the promised estimate
- Post-fire rebuild complaints — a 2017 Houzz customer described work needing replacement
