## The honest read

MAD Lawn and Tree LLC handles both halves of its name: lawn mowing and landscaping on one side, tree removal and trimming on the other. It holds a 5-star Google average from 38 ratings and an A+ BBB grade. Its website lists a service area that includes Chester, Clinton, Deep River, Essex, Old Saybrook and Westbrook.

A recent customer said a tree fell on their new home, and Mason said he could remove the whole tree in both yards, including all branches off the roof, for less than a competitor wanted for half; it was all done the next day. A recent customer had 12 trees taken down, some overhanging their wires and house, and said it took two days. A recent customer said the owner gave a quote the same day they called, lowered the price when asked about other trees, and he and his team came out within two days. A recent customer said they removed a dangerous limb that was threatening the house.

On the lawn side, a recent customer said MAD Lawn and Tree mows their lawn every two weeks and shows up when they say they will. A recent customer wrote that Mason cuts the grass evenly, adjusts the cut height by season, and that his team trims around hard-to-reach spots. A recent customer who has used the company since it first started said the digital notices of scheduled mowing dates, online payment and receipts have been helpful.

A 2023 customer said the company took down a number of trees, limbed them, cut the trees into lengths for splitting into firewood, and prepped a decorative garden with landscape fabric and mulch. A 2023 customer had Mason remove stump grinding chips and prepare the old stump area with topsoil and fertilizer to plant new trees. A 2023 customer said rain forced them to reschedule a tree trim a few times, and that once the job started it was quick and everything was picked up and carried away.

Connecticut lists its home improvement contractor registration, HIC.0705266, as active, held by MAD Lawn and Tree LLC.

**Strengths:**
- A 12-tree removal — a recent customer said it took two days
- Same-day quote — a recent customer was quoted the day they called
- Next-day fallen tree job — a recent customer said it was all done next day
- Even mowing — a recent customer said the cut height changes by season

**Concerns:**
- Rain reschedules — a 2023 customer rescheduled a tree trim a few times
