## The honest read

A recent customer says Malpica Home Improvement built a quality deck in 2 weeks, fast and affordable, with some cleanup required afterwards. The company's own website lists window, door, deck and chimney installation alongside kitchen and bathroom remodeling and home additions, and says it has been in business 10 years.

A recent customer called their deck a "Total hack job" and said they were charged for more expensive material. On a new deck, a recent customer found the contractor easy to work with, honest and detail-oriented, and said they were kept updated.

A 2025 customer said Alvaro's deck went up fast and passed inspection. A 2025 reviewer wrote that the company built out a new deck at a very reasonable price and got them a 25 percent discount at Home Depot for the material. In a 2024 review, a customer said Alvaro was there that day, had a reasonable quote within hours, and the deck work was completed within 2 days. A 2024 customer described deck power washing, board replacement and staining completed on time and within budget, and said the crew cleaned up each day. A 2023 customer said Alvaro and his crew built an extension on an existing deck, from getting permits to finishing, and that he was reasonable about change orders.

The work is not only decks. A 2024 customer said Albaro and his crew painted their 3 story home at a reasonable price. In a 2020 review, a customer said Alvaro contacted them the same day they requested tree service through Home Advisor for limbs and trees damaged from storms, and that he and his team did the work within a week and removed the debris. A 2021 Thumbtack customer said they came out to fix a fence the same day.

A 2023 customer said they were made to buy the wrong material, the workers sent did not know what they were doing, and the inspection failed the work. A 2020 customer wrote that Malpica removed 5 trees but left branches and bark strewn over the yard, never came back for a large pile of branches, and did not stack the logs they were paid extra to stack. A 2026 customer said they made an appointment and the company never showed up.

**Strengths:**
- A fast deck build — a 2025 customer said it passed inspection
- Same-day visit — a 2024 customer said Alvaro came that day and quoted within hours
- Daily cleanup — a 2024 customer said the crew cleaned up each day

**Concerns:**
- Deck workmanship — a recent customer called their deck a hack job
- A failed inspection — a 2023 customer said the inspection failed the work
- A missed appointment — a 2026 customer said the company never showed up
- Yard cleanup — a 2020 customer said branches and bark were left strewn
