# McCarthy & Son Landscaping **Trade:** Landscaping · **Address:** 59 Mitchell Rd, Ipswich, MA 01938, USA · **Phone:** (978) 356-9409 · **Languages:** English **Rating: 1.8/5** (low confidence) — from 2 reviews across 4 sources. ## The honest read McCarthy & Son Landscaping is a family-run Ipswich company that's been doing landscaping, lawn care, planting and snow plowing since 1986, incorporated in 1998 and owned by Timothy K. McCarthy with about 17 employees, according to its Better Business Bureau profile — which also gives the company an A+ letter grade, though BBB does not list it as an accredited business. The two Google reviews on file are both 1-star, and each describes a real breakdown around scheduling. In a May 2023 review, a customer said she saved for two years to have her backyard scraped, reloamed, reseeded, fertilized and mulched with hay, and specifically asked to be home for the work — instead the job ran six weeks late and was done, without notice, on a day she happened to be traveling. A September 2021 review describes calling after receiving a flyer, getting a price accepted for resanding a paver walkway and setting 180 edge blocks around a patio, though it doesn't spell out what went wrong beyond the one-star rating itself. That A+ letter grade sits alongside those two negative Google reviews — a mismatch worth keeping in mind, since BBB's own page carries no customer star average, review text, or complaint count to compare against directly. Also worth confirming directly: BBB lists the business at 6 Emery Lane, Ipswich, a different address than the one on this profile, 59 Mitchell Rd. Given the specific complaint about a missed appointment window and a six-week delay on a yard renovation, it's worth asking about current crew availability and getting firm dates in writing before booking anything time-sensitive, like planting or seasonal cleanup. **Strengths:** - Long operating history — family-run landscaping business since 1986, per BBB **Concerns:** - Missed appointment window — a 2023 review cites a six-week delay with no notice - Low Google ratings — two 2021-2023 reviews rated the work one star **Where sources disagree:** - BBB's listing gives a different Ipswich address, 6 Emery Lane, than the one on this profile, 59 Mitchell Rd. - BBB gives the company an A+ letter grade while the two Google reviews on file are both 1-star; BBB's own page carries no customer star average, review text, or complaint count to weigh against that grade. ## Claims & citations Every claim below is backed by real evidence rows — uncited claims are dropped in code before publication. - A family-run Ipswich landscaping company started in 1986 and incorporated in 1998, owned by Timothy K.
