Its website says the family-owned business started in 1959 with electric motor repair and today handles sales, service and parts for wood, pellet and coal stoves, and it lists towns such as Agawam, Amherst, Chicopee, Easthampton and Longmeadow in its service area. In a 2025 review, a customer who had spent $8,000 on a woodstove with another company got a refund and turned to McKenney, which provided a detailed quote, conducted a thorough inspection and had the woodstove installed in just one week. A customer who had just had a second pellet stove installed wrote in 2025 that weather and extreme winds had kept creating challenges with the first stove, and that McKenney came through and found solutions for each problem; that customer said both stoves were working great. A customer who went in for an opinion on a fireplace insert wrote in 2025 that McKenney took the time to meet for over 45 minutes to talk through the options. A customer who first bought a pellet insert in 2014 wrote in 2025 of later finding a refurbished freestanding version of the same pellet stove there; McKenney saved it without a deposit until that customer could buy it at the end of the year. In a 2021 review, a customer in Pennsylvania ordered a new circuit board and ignitor for a pellet stove online on a Saturday night and had the parts by Tuesday morning. Local news coverage has mentioned McKenney as a source for stove parts and fireplaces. In a September 2025 r/PelletStoveTalk thread, one poster said they buy Logik-E hardwood pellets from McKenney Hearth & Home in Holyoke, and another seconded McKenney. **Strengths:** - Woodstove installation — in a 2025 review, installed in just one week - Pellet stove support — in a 2025 review, solutions for each wind-driven problem - Fireplace insert advice — in a 2025 review, over 45 minutes on options **Where sources disagree:** - Its website states a 1959 start and, separately, 31 years in business ## Claims & citations Every claim below is backed by real evidence rows — uncited claims are dropped in code before publication. - Its website says the family-owned business started in 1959 with electric motor repair and today handles sales, service and parts for wood, pellet and coal stoves _(confidence: medium)_ - [Official Website](https://mckenneyelectric.com) — “About (self-reported, verbatim): McKenney Hearth and Home helps families buy pellet stove and buy wood stove options built for long term per…” - Rated 4.8 stars on Google from 79 ratings _(confidence: high)_ - [Google](https://www.google.com/maps/search/?api=1&query=McKenney%20Hearth%20%26%20Home&query_place_id=ChIJISUjymLZ5okRLZ2LWO1tnLo) — “Google: 4.8★ from 79 ratings” - In a 2025 review, McKenney provided a detailed quote and a thorough inspection and had a woodstove installed in just one week _(confidence: medium)_ - [Google Reviews](https://maps.google.com/?cid=13446743453581679917&g_mp=CiVnb29nbGUubWFwcy5wbGFjZXMudjEuUGxhY2VzLkdldFBsYWNlEAIYBCAA) — “5★ After a disappointing experience with another company (Higgins Alternative Energy), where we initially spent $8,000 on a woodstove, we we…” - In a 2025 review, McKenney found solutions for each problem that weather and extreme winds created for a customer's pellet stove _(confidence: medium)_ - [Google Reviews](https://maps.google.com/?cid=13446743453581679917&g_mp=CiVnb29nbGUubWFwcy5wbGFjZXMudjEuUGxhY2VzLkdldFBsYWNlEAIYBCAA) — “5★ This review is really quite long overdue.
