## The honest read

MGZ Design & Construction is based in Upton, MA, and describes itself on Houzz as a residential design-build general contractor providing complete remodeling and construction services from design concept through project completion. Its website lists a service area that includes Ashland, Framingham, Holliston, Hopkinton, Natick, Needham, Newton, Wellesley and Upton.

Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor license 126943 is expired on the state registry.

In a 2017 review, a customer said they had turned to MGZ over the past 8 years for major remodeling projects, including two bathroom renovations and a major kitchen renovation in their 100+ year old house. That 2017 review describes custom-designed cherry cabinets with ebony pegs and says Michael Gelb worked closely with them on choices and proactively communicated throughout.

In a 2016 review, a customer said designer Michael Gelb and his partner builder, Michael Zayac, turned their 100 year old house into a luxury living space, and that complete construction documents were provided. In a separate 2017 review, a customer who moved into a new house said it came through its first very powerful storm and called it "rock-solid."

**Strengths:**
- Old-house renovation — a 100 year old house remodeled, per a 2016 review
- Custom cabinetry — cherry cabinets with ebony pegs, a 2017 review says

**Concerns:**
- Expired license — home improvement license expired on the state registry
