## The honest read

Michael B Martin is a Plymouth, Massachusetts contractor whose BuildZoom listing offers kitchen, bathroom, basement and whole-home remodels plus additions. The permits filed under the name are a different scale of job: 17 in all, among them a $10.4 million alteration across 6, 10 and 12 Carol Ave in Brighton with changes of occupancy for 10- to 12-unit buildings, a $10 million certificate of occupancy for a 47-unit residential building with retail and 20-vehicle parking at 61 Heath St in Jamaica Plain, commercial soil borings in Dorchester and a change-of-use filing in Boston. Four of the 17 were filed in the past three years.

Two things to settle before calling. The state registry shows the Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration in this name, #150593, as expired — worth asking about directly, since that is the registration residential work runs under. BuildZoom also lists two Massachusetts construction supervisor licence numbers against the name, CS-104931 and CS-093087; look both up on the state's licence lookup yourself rather than taking a directory's copy of them.

The profile mixes identifiers as well: a Merrimack, New Hampshire headquarters sits alongside the Plymouth address, and the name appears as both Michael Martin and Michael R. Martin under the business name Michael B Martin.

If you are hiring for a house, ask which entity would sign your contract, ask for references from single-family jobs finished recently, and confirm the registration status before any deposit. For a developer or an investor with a multi-family or mixed-use project, the permit history is the relevant part of this picture.

**Strengths:**
- Large-project permits — multi-family and mixed-use work filed in Boston

**Concerns:**
- Expired HIC registration — the state registry shows #150593 expired
- Commercial permit history — the 17 filings are multi-family and commercial jobs
- Mixed identifiers — a New Hampshire headquarters and two name spellings

**Where sources disagree:**
- The listed services are homeowner remodeling, while the permits filed under the name are multi-family and commercial projects.
- BuildZoom pairs a Merrimack, New Hampshire headquarters with the Plymouth, MA address and gives the name as both Michael Martin and Michael R. Martin under the business name Michael B Martin.
