## The honest read

Nu-Home Remodeling Contractors works out of Upton, and the permits behind it are the big suburban jobs west of Boston: additions and kitchen renovations in Newton, Framingham, Chestnut Hill, Newtonville and Newton Highlands, the largest a $382,500 two-storey addition on Neal Street in Newton Lower Falls in 2012. Eleven permits are listed on BuildZoom, running from 2003 to 2013, with a window permit in Peabody and a gas permit in Falmouth among them.

Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, #121942, is expired on the state registry. That is the thing to settle before any residential remodeling work starts. BuildZoom also lists two Massachusetts construction supervisor licences under the business, CS-104168 and CS-059317; check those with the state as well.

One more thing to sort out before you call: the same phone number appears on a BuildZoom profile branded Audette Builders, at a different Upton address, under Michael Audette — the same principal a Natick historic district record ties to Nu-Home Remodeling Contractors. Ask which company would be signing your contract.

For a homeowner weighing a large addition or a kitchen renovation in the MetroWest towns, the work on file is the right kind and the right size. Get the registration sorted, ask who holds the construction supervisor licence for your job, and get the company name on paper.

**Strengths:**
- Large additions — a $382,500 two-storey Newton addition in 2012
- MetroWest remodeling — additions and kitchens in Newton, Framingham, Chestnut Hill
- Supervisor licences listed — BuildZoom lists CS-104168 and CS-059317

**Concerns:**
- Expired HIC registration — the state registry shows #121942 expired
- Two brand names — the same phone also fronts Audette Builders

**Where sources disagree:**
- A BuildZoom profile carrying this business's phone number is branded Audette Builders at 2 West St in Upton, under Michael Audette, whom a Natick historic district record names as of Nu-Home Remodeling Contractors.
