# P. R. Douglas Co., Inc **Trade:** HVAC / Heating & Cooling · **Address:** 29 Calvary St, Waltham, MA 02453, United States · **Phone:** (781) 899-9180 · **Website:** http://prdouglasco.com/ · **Languages:** English **Rating: 3.5/5** (medium confidence) — from 5 reviews across 6 sources. 100% of sentiment-scored reviews read net-positive. Last 6 months: 0 reviews, 0 negative. ## The honest read P. R. Douglas Co. is a family-run Waltham heating and air conditioning shop Paul Douglas started out of his parents' garage in 1979 — its site's tagline still reads 'Quality HVAC Service Since 1979.' Today Paul, his son Scott and Cheryl Douglas run it with about six employees and five service vehicles, installing and servicing oil and gas boilers, furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps and ductless mini-splits. Right now, though, its own website states plainly that it is not accepting new customers — worth checking before reaching out. The handful of reviews on file are detailed rather than generic. In a 2023 review, one customer says the company caught a recurring issue for their in-laws that another HVAC company had missed. Others describe Scott specifically as responsive and fairly priced, with one saying they've stayed a customer for years and another crediting a trusted referral from a previous customer. A 2024 Reddit comment in r/Waltham says the company handled a full HVAC system installation. Its Massachusetts HVAC (sheet-metal) license is registry-verified active, and one reviewer's mention of 'HVAC and plumbing work,' together with BuildZoom's own listing of plumbing, gas-piping and boiler/water-heater services, points to plumbing work alongside its core heating and cooling business — though none of the plumbing-related license numbers BuildZoom lists have been independently verified, and BuildZoom's own records even disagree on whether one of them is active or cancelled. One thing worth knowing: a third-party workplace-safety tracker reports the company was the subject of a formal OSHA inspection resulting in two citations and $3,300 in proposed penalties. The record here doesn't say when or how it was resolved. Separately, the Better Business Bureau gives the company an A+ rating but lists it as not a BBB Accredited Business — two different things BBB tracks. For an established, family-run heating and cooling shop with a long local history, the reviews are a strong sign — but confirm they're currently taking new work, and it's fair to ask directly about the OSHA finding. **Strengths:** - Catches missed issues — spotted a problem another HVAC company missed - Personally responsive — Scott cited for timeliness and fair pricing - Long local history — family-run Waltham shop since 1979 - Verified license — active MA HVAC registration on file **Concerns:** - OSHA citation — 2 citations, $3,300 in penalties per a safety tracker - Not accepting customers — site currently lists no new-customer intake **Where sources disagree:** - BBB records the business as a Sole Proprietorship with Paul R. Douglas as sole proprietor, while the state licence registry and the company's own branding use 'P. R. Douglas Co., Inc.' — the sources disagree on entity form. - BuildZoom's own listings disagree on license #2585 — one entry shows it Active with a May 2012 expiration date, another shows it Inactive/cancelled per the state E-Licensing Board. ## Claims & citations Every claim below is backed by real evidence rows — uncited claims are dropped in code before publication. - Its Massachusetts HVAC (sheet metal) license is registry-verified active, held by P.
