## The honest read

Pioneer Oil and Propane lists Sturbridge as its service area and states on its website that it offers 24/7 emergency service. The Better Business Bureau gives it an A+ grade. Its MA HVAC license 364-SM-B, held by Pioneer Oil Co Inc, is expired on the state registry.

A recent review says Matt serviced a boiler, found that a faulty nozzle was the culprit and replaced it on the spot. A recent customer says Chris did an annual seasonal tune up, found a few other things needed and explained what they were. Another recent review says Jenny helped schedule and coordinate the parts they needed, which took several months, and that Matt installed the parts and double checked everything.

In a 2026 review, a customer said Pioneer Oil and Propane removed their old furnace, oil tank and water heater and installed a propane unit, and that a problem with the unit turned out to be a manufacturer defect. In a 2026 review, a customer said Chris replaced a relief valve, cleared the air out of the pipes and found that the furnace needed a new circulator.

A recent review says deliveries became sporadic, the customer called daily for about two weeks asking when to expect a delivery, and the receptionist hung up once. Another recent customer says the phone clerks hung up on them twice and the tank was filled four days after the date they were given. A recent review says the on-call response during multiple no-heat calls in early January did not resolve the issue, and that annual boiler maintenance under a service plan had not been performed because it had not been scheduled. In a 2026 review, a customer on automated oil deliveries said the tank ran out and it was almost 12 hours from first reaching out until the boiler was making heat again.

**Strengths:**
- Boiler repair — faulty nozzle found and replaced on the spot
- Furnace tune ups — Chris found and explained other needed items
- Propane conversion — old furnace, oil tank and water heater replaced in 2026

**Concerns:**
- Oil deliveries — recent accounts of missed and late fills
- Phone service — clerks hung up on a customer twice
- Expired licence — MA HVAC license 364-SM-B expired on the state registry
