## The honest read

A pool too deep for a customer's brother, who has a disability, taken from 8 feet to 4 feet at the deep end, with a new liner and a summer of service after: that is one of the jobs a customer of PL Pools & Spas describes, and Alan is the name on it.

The company says on its website that it is locally owned and operated in Colchester, CT, handles spring openings, fall closings, routine maintenance and larger repairs for pools and spas, and has been in business 20 years. On Google it carries 4.8 stars from 14 ratings.

A customer who bought a house with a pool in rough shape says Alan replaced the pool panel, pump, saltwater chlorine generator and sand filter while keeping costs under control. A customer whose valve cracked over the winter says the repair needed replumbing of the main drain line, and that Alan quoted less than other companies and finished on a faster timeline. A customer whose liner was wrecked after a deer fell into the pool says Alan replaced it. A customer who could not get anyone to check a pool filter early in the summer says Alan scheduled a visit and had it repaired within a week. A customer says Alan came out a few times, opened the pool, cleaned the filters and sent Amazon links for supplies instead of selling them. A customer says Alan closed their pool and met the needs of an unusual system on short notice.

**Strengths:**
- A main drain replumb — a customer says it was quoted lower and done faster
- A pool equipment overhaul — a customer says panel, pump and filter were replaced
- A filter repair — a customer says it was fixed within a week

**Where sources disagree:**
- One Google review carries 2 stars while its text praises Alan's opening of the pool and his quote.
