A Seacoast news site has described Jim Proulx as president of the Newmarket company, a family business with about 40 employees. Its website lists service towns that include Nashua, Manchester, Bedford, Merrimack and Milford, and the company says it offers 24/7 emergency service. Its BBB page shows an A+ grade. A recent customer who moved into a home with one of its propane tanks says the company charges a minimum usage fee for not ordering propane, and switched to another company for that reason. That customer says a rep on the phone told them "The company has to make money too." They also say the company added late fees after its online payment portal showed an error, and would not waive them. A 2026 customer wrote that oil prices in their area were cheaper per gallon than what Proulx had just charged them. A 2025 customer wrote, "you will always get rescheduled so they can cater to their builder accounts." A recent reviewer said James Proulx, whom they called the CEO, took time to talk with their son during a Boy Scout summer camp fundraiser. A 2025 customer described on-time deliveries and competitive pricing. In a 2025 r/newhampshire thread, a Reddit commenter wrote that they had been with Proulx for years, citing good pricing options and on-time service. In an August 2026 thread in the same subreddit, another commenter wrote that Proulx in Newmarket "did me no favors." **Strengths:** - On-time deliveries — a 2025 customer described on-time deliveries and competitive pricing - Long local history — a business magazine dates the company to 1944 **Concerns:** - Propane minimum usage fee — a recent customer switched companies over it - Late fees — a recent customer said fees came after the payment portal failed - Being rescheduled — a 2025 customer blamed the company's builder accounts - Oil price — a 2026 customer found cheaper oil elsewhere in their area ## Claims & citations Every claim below is backed by real evidence rows — uncited claims are dropped in code before publication. - A New Hampshire business magazine has described the company as starting in 1944 as a heating oil company in Epping _(confidence: medium)_ - [Local News](https://www.businessnhmagazine.com/article/nhrsquos-milestone-anniversaries-80th-anniversary-proulx-oil-amp-propane) — “businessnhmagazine.com — For 80 years, Proulx Oil and Propane has been serving the greater Seacoast area.
