Workplace safety has drawn federal action. OSHA's page says it cited Shawn D. Purvis, owner of Purvis Home Improvement Co. Inc., for willful, repeat and serious workplace safety violations at a jobsite in Springvale, Maine, and that the roofing contractor faces $278,456 in new penalties. A wmtw.com report says a federal judge ruled that Shawn Purvis, doing business as Purvis Home Improvement Co. Inc., willfully exposed employees to fall hazards at roofing worksites in Portland, Old Orchard Beach and Springvale between December 2018 and May 2019. A 2026 Google customer said they had the entire house resided with Shawn in June 2025, paid in full and soon found many problems with the work. That 2026 customer said that after one return visit to fix one problem, the company had not come back. A 2025 Google customer said Shawn did not ask for money before starting a new roof on a multi-unit property they owned, and said he would accept payment when the job was completed. A 2020 customer said the job was removing three layers of shingles and old ice guard and installing new asphalt shingles and a new ice shield, all done in one day. A 2016 customer said Shawn and his crew replaced a section of their roof, metal flashed the house and installed gutters. A 2015 customer said Shawn and his crew spent 2 days on a gambrel roof with 4 dormers and an oversized garage, on an estimate 25% less than the next closest bid. Its BBB grade is B-. A 2017 customer said part of a new roof seemed to have shifted after an ice storm about 120 days after completion, and that Shawn refused to look at it despite a 10 year labor warranty. **Strengths:** - Cost matched estimate — a recent customer said the final cost matched - A one-day reroof — a 2020 customer said a three-layer tear-off took one day **Concerns:** - OSHA citations — cited for willful, repeat and serious safety violations - Fall hazard ruling — a federal judge found employees willfully exposed - Residing problems — a 2026 customer reported many problems with the work - Warranty follow-up — a 2017 customer said a shifted roof went unexamined ## Claims & citations Every claim below is backed by real evidence rows — uncited claims are dropped in code before publication. - A recent customer said the crew was punctual and the final cost matched the initial estimate _(confidence: medium)_ - [Google Reviews](https://www.google.com/maps/reviews/data=!4m8!14m7!1m6!2m5!1sCi9DQUlRQUNvZENodHljRjlvT25oM05VWXlaMWxFTmxvMVF6WllSbXhYV2sxR2MxRRAB!2m1!1s0x0:0x4ebcb3b314cead9b!3m1!1s2@1:CAIQACodChtycF9oOnh3NUYyZ1lENlo1QzZYRmxXWk1Gc1E%7C%7C?hl=en) — “5★ Shawn's crew is finishing up the project at our house today, and they did a fantastic job.
