Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor license is active, and the company also lists a Construction Supervisor license on its own site and Houzz page. The review record is thin — just two on file — but both are striking. One came from a customer with over 15 years in the plumbing and heating trade, who called Ranney the best builder he's worked with, citing a kept schedule and unmatched attention to detail. The other, from 2025, described the team preserving the character of a 100-plus-year-old house while adding a new staircase during structural work. With so few reviews, it's worth asking for references directly on a project similar in scope to what you're planning — kitchen and bath remodels, additions, and new construction are all listed among the company's services, though the evidence here centers on structural and architectural work rather than room-specific remodels. **Strengths:** - Trade-insider praise — a plumbing pro called them the best builder he's used - Character preservation — kept a century-old home's architecture during structural work **Concerns:** - Thin review record — only two reviews are on file ## Claims & citations Every claim below is backed by real evidence rows — uncited claims are dropped in code before publication. - Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor license, #209327, is registry-verified active _(confidence: high)_ - [State License Registry](https://contractorhub.mass.gov/s/hic-contractor-search) — “MA hic license 209327 registry-verified active — registry holder of record: Ranney Building & Design, INC.” - The company also lists a Massachusetts Construction Supervisor license, #088595, on its website and Houzz profile _(confidence: medium)_ - [Official Website](https://www.ranneybuilt.com) — “Self-reported license/registration number (NOT verified against any registry): CS #088595” - [Houzz](https://www.houzz.com/professionals/design-build-firms/ranney-building-and-design-inc-pfvwus-pf~2085227705) — “Licence listed on Houzz: CS #088595” - A 2024 reviewer with over 15 years in the plumbing and heating trade called the company the best builder he's worked with, citing scheduling and attention to detail _(confidence: high)_ - [Google Reviews](https://www.google.com/maps/reviews/data=!4m8!14m7!1m6!2m5!1sChdDSUhNMG9nS0VJQ0FnSUN0NlpUVzZRRRAB!2m1!1s0x0:0xeb1116ab05290589!3m1!1s2@1:CIHM0ogKEICAgICt6ZTW6QE%7C%7C?hl=en) — “5★ I've been in the plumbing and heating business for over 15 years.
