## The honest read

Riley Tree & Landscaping does lawn care, tree work and yard rebuilds, and it holds 4.9 stars from 52 Google ratings. On its Houzz profile, the company says brothers Douglas and Sean Riley started it in 2015. Its website names a service area that includes Bethany, Derby, Ansonia, Seymour, Woodbridge, Orange and Hamden.

A recent customer had a very tall choke cherry tree removed close to the house, LP, generator and AC unit, got a price on the spot and waited less than two weeks for work to begin. That customer said the logs were placed where they wanted them as a landscape barrier and the site was cleaned up nicely. A recent first-time customer says that even with a dry summer the grass looks better than ever, and calls Sean knowledgeable. A recent customer says they did all of the mulching and also fertilize the property.

A 2026 customer said a 60 foot pine fell across the driveway in a blizzard, and they came immediately and cleared the tree. A 2026 customer called the plowing prices very reasonable.

A 2025 customer from Naugatuck wrote that Doug and his crew graded the lawn, removed stumps, seeded, laid hay and installed sprinklers over two and a half days. That 2025 customer said one sprinkler stopped working and Doug promptly replaced it.

A 2024 customer wrote that 15 trees were taken down in one day, with the stumps taken out the next day and six large trees in the front trimmed after that. That 2024 customer called Doug's estimate very fair considering all the work.

A 2023 customer wrote that Sean Riley brought their property back from dry, hay-like patches and rocky soil to green grass. A 2022 customer said Doug and his two helpers cut down trees whose limbs were covering the front of the house, along with a sugar maple, and cleared away the grapevines. That 2022 customer said the bill was way under what they thought they would have to pay.

Connecticut lists its home improvement contractor registration, HIC.0668854, as active, held by Riley Tree & Landscaping LLC.

**Strengths:**
- Careful tree removal — a recent customer described a tall tree taken down near the house
- Lawn turnaround — a recent customer says the grass looks better than ever
- Blizzard tree cleanup — a 2026 customer said a fallen pine was cleared immediately
- Yard regrading — a 2025 customer described grading, stump removal and sprinklers
- A fair estimate — a 2024 customer called the quote very fair for the work
