## The honest read

Russell Woodworks describes itself on Houzz as a full service design-build company specializing in architectural designs, interior design, remodeling, cabinetry and millwork. Houzz lists a New Haven Preservation Trust Award for Historical Restoration and a This Old House Best of Show for a Carlisle project among its certifications.

In a 2008 Angi review, a customer said they hired Russell Woodworks to redesign their kitchen, a comparatively challenging space, and wrote that John worked within the budget and completed the work on time. A 2011 customer said Mr. Russell did the custom woodwork and installation himself and did not subcontract to others. A 2005 customer thanked John for a built-in wardrobe and said its hinge hardware makes for smooth sliding drawers. A 2010 customer said John brought back out-of-the-box ideas during the design phase of their project.

A 2006 customer said more planning should have been given to the placement of the drawers and sub-woofer, while saying they were very happy with the entertainment center. A 2005 customer called the work expensive but of high quality.

Connecticut lists its home improvement contractor registration, HIC.0557880, as inactive, held by Russell Woodworks.

**Strengths:**
- Kitchen redesign — a 2008 customer said it was on budget and on time
- No subcontracting — a 2011 customer said the woodwork was done in person
- A built-in wardrobe — a 2005 customer praised its smooth sliding drawers

**Concerns:**
- Drawer placement — a 2006 customer said more planning was needed
- Higher price — a 2005 customer called the work expensive
