Its Better Business Bureau profile lists landscaping and lawn care services and shows an A+ grade. On Google it sits at 2.3 stars from 7 ratings. A 2024 customer who hired Joe Ryan for landscaping, grass seeding and mulching said he never let them know beforehand that he would be at the property, and that he charged top dollar for dirt and fill that was mostly rocks. A 2024 customer said they were verbally quoted $4,000 to remove two Alberta spruces, weed beds, mulch and lay stone around the side of the house, deck, shed and fire pit area. That 2024 customer said the worker did not dig down 4 inches and put the stone over a tarp, that edging was not done, and that roots from the removed spruces were left sticking above ground. The same 2024 customer said the stone work was never redone and they ended up redoing most of the work themselves. A 2024 customer who gave two stars wrote that he took care of their home in Pittsfield. **Strengths:** - BBB grade — an A+ on the Better Business Bureau **Concerns:** - Stone work — a 2024 customer said stone was laid over a tarp - Advance notice — a 2024 customer said visits came without notice - Fill material — a 2024 customer said the fill was mostly rocks ## Claims & citations Every claim below is backed by real evidence rows — uncited claims are dropped in code before publication. - Says it began with Joe Ryan III mowing neighborhood lawns at age 12 _(confidence: medium)_ - [Official Website](http://ryanlandscapingandlawncare.com) — “About (self-reported, verbatim): Ryan Landscaping and Lawn Care had its beginning in the entrepreneurial pursuits of Joe Ryan III at age 12 …” - A+ grade on the Better Business Bureau, which lists landscaping and lawn care services _(confidence: high)_ - [Better Business Bureau](https://www.bbb.org/us/ma/pittsfield/profile/landscape-contractors/ryan-landscaping-lawn-care-0261-206204) — “Better Business Bureau grade: A+” - [Better Business Bureau](https://www.bbb.org/us/ma/pittsfield/profile/landscape-contractors/ryan-landscaping-lawn-care-0261-206204) — “Services offered (Better Business Bureau): According to information provided by the company, they offer landscaping and lawn care services” - 2.3 stars from 7 ratings on Google _(confidence: high)_ - [Google](https://www.google.com/maps/search/?api=1&query=Ryan%20Landscaping%20%26%20Lawn%20Care&query_place_id=ChIJzcfobzdO54kRbMR4DpFHo6E) — “Google: 2.3★ from 7 ratings” - A 2024 customer said stone was laid over a tarp without digging down, edging was not done and spruce roots were left above ground _(confidence: medium)_ - [Google Reviews](https://www.google.com/maps/reviews/data=!4m8!14m7!1m6!2m5!1sChZDSUhNMG9nS0VJQ0FnSUQ3M3BtUUV3EAE!2m1!1s0x0:0xa1a347910e78c46c!3m1!1s2@1:CIHM0ogKEICAgID73pmQEw%7C%7C?hl=en-US) — “1★ I would not recommend this business.
