WHITELY REMODELING & CUSTOM CARPENTRY **Trade:** Carpentry · **Languages:** English **Rating: 2.9/5** (low confidence) — from 3 reviews across 2 sources. ## The honest read S. Whitely Remodeling & Custom Carpentry says on its Houzz profile that it has been in business since 1976 and covers residential remodeling and construction. In a 2013 review, a customer said Steve demolished their old kitchen down to the studs, walled up two hall closets to enlarge the kitchen, laid travertine tile flooring on the diagonal in the hall and kitchen, built a pantry using the space above the basement stairs, installed new appliances and inlay cabinets, set a farmer's sink, installed honed marble tiles for the backsplash and new windows over the sink, and built and installed recessed shelves. That customer said Steve quoted the cost of the job up front and provided a new quote before starting any changes, and that he attended the Zoning Board of Appeals meeting to help answer questions about a proposed dining room addition. In a 2014 review, a customer said Steve finished their basement, using old barn wood to cover beams and surround a gas fireplace, and added a full bathroom. In a 2015 review, a person who had referred several clients to S. Whitely said he was then working on a full kitchen remodel of cabinets, walls and flooring for one of those referrals. **Strengths:** - Studs-out kitchen rebuild — tile, cabinets, sink and backsplash in 2013 - Fixed-price quotes — cost quoted up front, new quote for changes in 2013 - Basement finishing — barn wood beams and a full bathroom in 2014 ## Claims & citations Every claim below is backed by real evidence rows — uncited claims are dropped in code before publication. - Says on its Houzz profile it has been in business since 1976 and covers residential remodeling and construction _(confidence: medium)_ - [Houzz](https://www.houzz.com/professionals/kitchen-and-bath-remodelers/s-whitely-remodeling-and-custom-carpentry-pfvwus-pf~378018596) — “About (Houzz profile, the business's own statement): Whitely Remodeling has been in business since 1976 and covers all ares of residential r…” - In 2013 took a kitchen down to the studs and rebuilt it with travertine tile flooring, a pantry, inlay cabinets, a farmer's sink and a marble backsplash _(confidence: high)_ - [Houzz](https://www.houzz.com/professionals/kitchen-and-bath-remodelers/s-whitely-remodeling-and-custom-carpentry-pfvwus-pf~378018596) — “5★ Steve demolished my old kitchen down to the studs; walled up 2 closets in the hall, which has floor to ceiling tongue and groove pine pan…” - In 2013 quoted the cost of the job up front and gave a new quote before starting changes _(confidence: high)_ - [Houzz](https://www.houzz.com/professionals/kitchen-and-bath-remodelers/s-whitely-remodeling-and-custom-carpentry-pfvwus-pf~378018596) — “5★ Steve demolished my old kitchen down to the studs; walled up 2 closets in the hall, which has floor to ceiling tongue and groove pine pan…” - In 2014 finished a basement with barn wood covering the beams and added a full bathroom _(confidence: high)_ - [Houzz](https://www.houzz.com/professionals/kitchen-and-bath-remodelers/s-whitely-remodeling-and-custom-carpentry-pfvwus-pf~378018596) — “5★ Steve just finished our basement for us.
