## The honest read

Scituate Oil Company delivers home heating oil, and the company says it has been in business 44 years. The towns it lists as its service area include Johnston, Cranston, Cumberland, Foster, Glocester and Pawtucket.

A 2025 customer whose tank gauge showed empty said Mary, who answered the call, squeezed them in with that day's deliveries, and the truck showed up within a few hours and filled the tank. A 2024 customer said Scituate delivered oil in 2 hours, though they had never had a delivery from the company before. A 2024 customer said the company was there in 30 minutes, while it was snowing, after the family ran out of oil because of a broken valve. A 2026 customer, a senior, said the company was booked solid but made room for them when their own provider could not deliver for a week.

A 2023 customer said they placed orders online, got a phone call to confirm, and had delivery the next day. A recent customer called the people genuinely kind and nice.

A recent customer of many years said that when the tank had less room than the order, the company charged for the remaining gallons, which that customer said did not match the fee described on its website. A 2022 customer said they called to cancel an order, were charged anyway, were spoken to very rudely, and opened a dispute with their bank when no refund came.

**Strengths:**
- Same-day squeeze-in — a 2025 customer said Mary fit them into that day's deliveries
- Help in the snow — a 2024 customer said they were there in 30 minutes
- Online ordering — a 2023 customer said an online order brought a confirming call
- Kind people — a recent customer called them genuinely kind, nice people

**Concerns:**
- Unfilled gallons charged — a recent customer said gallons that did not fit were charged
- Cancelled order charged — a 2022 customer said a cancelled order was still charged

**Where sources disagree:**
- A recent customer said the charge for gallons that did not fit differed from the fee the company's website describes.
