## The honest read

On December 5th, on what a customer called the coldest night Cape Cod had seen in 66 years, a frozen pipe burst and the homeowner had to shut the water off entirely. Writing in 2023, they said Spencer Hallett's plumbers came out right away, found more than one leak, and got the water back on. That is the shape of most of what people say about this Marstons Mills shop: you call, they come, the problem gets found.

The company works both sides of Cape Cod plumbing — residential and commercial, new construction and remodeling as well as repairs, maintenance and upgrades, by its own description. It calls itself a family business with Spencer Hallett as president and says it has been at this for about a century; the BBB, which grades it A plus without accreditation, puts it at 35 years. The jobs described in reviews run small to large: a filtered-water faucet at a kitchen sink and then a gas line out to a pool for the same 2022 customer, a full re-plumb of a 160-year-old cottage in 2021, seasonal winterizing and un-winterizing, a nail someone had driven through a drain pipe long before the current owners bought the house.

Across 79 Google ratings averaging 4.8, two things keep coming up: they answer the phone and they show up. A first-time caller in 2024 was struck by how fast they responded; another 2024 reviewer with a leaking outdoor shower had an appointment within a few days; commercial property owners writing in 2022 said the crew turned out for emergencies. One 2024 caller reached a plumber who was travelling, got pointed to someone else, and left a review on the strength of that alone.

The exception is worth reading before you book a big install. A customer writing in January 2025 described a water-heater replacement that came apart: the crew arrived late Monday, promised to finish Tuesday between noon and three, and nobody came — and when the customer called at 3:06 they got an earful. A 2023 reviewer with a leaky shower valve had a smaller version of the same complaint, saying two plumbers were sent and billed for what they considered one man's work after they had opened the wall themselves.

One paperwork item to settle: the only state licence record found for this business is an expired HVAC licence recorded to Jonathan M Tower, and the master plumber number the company publishes on its own site has not been confirmed against the registry. Ask to see the current licence, and get the crew size and the finish window in writing on anything larger than a service call.
