His Massachusetts home improvement contractor licence 182067 is expired on the state registry. BuildZoom lists licence number CS-044678 for him. In 2020, Steve renovated a bathroom; that review says he was timely and dependable, communicated well, and followed up to make sure they were happy with the result. A separate 2020 review says Steve completed a family lake home in NH and kept them updated on a regular basis. A 2017 one-star review said his on-site supervision was spotty, that he cut corners with problems coming up after move-in, and that subcontractors were not paid. Another 2017 review said he made grave (costly) mistakes on a home on Martha's Vineyard, with limited supervision, and did not pay subcontractors. In a 2026 BuildZoom post signed Steve Toomey, he says he built a house in Vineyard Haven, MA, and that the only subs not paid on that job were people Hans hired himself and then refused to pay. **Strengths:** - Bathroom renovation — a 2020 review called him timely and dependable - Regular updates — a 2020 lake home client was kept updated **Concerns:** - Unpaid subcontractors — two 2017 reviews said subcontractors were not paid - On-site supervision — a 2017 review called it spotty **Where sources disagree:** - In a 2026 BuildZoom post, Steve Toomey disputes that subcontractors went unpaid, saying the only unpaid subs were people Hans hired himself ## Claims & citations Every claim below is backed by real evidence rows — uncited claims are dropped in code before publication. - Massachusetts home improvement contractor licence 182067 is expired on the state registry _(confidence: high)_ - [State License Registry](https://contractorhub.mass.gov/s/hic-contractor-search) — “MA hic license 182067 registry-verified expired — registry holder of record: STEVEN R.
