## The honest read

Stump Chompers is built around one job: getting tree stumps out of a yard. On its website the company describes itself as a local, family-owned business serving Orange/Milford and the surrounding Connecticut areas, with over two decades of experience taking care of unwanted tree stumps and handling excavation projects. Its HomeAdvisor profile shows 4.9 stars from 32 ratings.

A 2016 customer wrote that Stump Chompers rid the lawn of six stumps and added topsoil and seed for about half the price of another estimate. A 2015 customer said he ground the stumps and leveled the area so the customer could install a fence, at a price that customer called very fair. A 2019 customer said Don removed one of two stumps right away, added topsoil and smoothed it out, and communicated every step of the way.

A 2018 customer had waited more than six weeks on another company that could not give a date, then found Don. A day after meeting with him, that 2018 customer said, Don sent his people to remove a dead tree a snowstorm had brought down on the front lawn, and he returned as agreed to remove the stumps. A 2015 customer said Don called back right away, came when he said he would and cleaned up after himself.

A 2013 customer said there was a considerable span between hiring Don and when he was able to do the job, though he started on the promised date.

**Strengths:**
- Stump grinding — a 2015 customer said he leveled the area for a fence
- Topsoil and seed — a 2016 customer said six stumps were removed and seeded
- A quick start — a 2018 customer said Don sent his people a day later
- A clean site — a 2015 customer said Don cleaned up after himself

**Concerns:**
- Booking wait — a 2013 customer said the wait before the job was considerable
